WTB: Q*bert PSU, sound board and harness
« on: February 04, 2013, 07:24:34 AM »
I've given up on waiting for the multi-mylstar boards to happen.....I need Q*bert ! :)

I know the chance is slim, but you never know. If any of you guys has:

V- PSU (was already in the cab)
- PSU board (almost here)
- harness (main still in cab, inter-board harness almost there)
V- sound board (not yet tested, waiting for above)

let me know :)

(p.s. yes I know about the e-bay one's ;) )

There's a guy on KLOV selling the PCB and "all parts you need to wire it up"

You could send him an email

Just scored an untested sound board from E-bay.

I also already got an untested main board...going to be fun to test these...

I didn't check properly but I noticed there is still wiring inside my Q*bert cab, I fail to remember if it was hacked or not....

I think I'll use a switcher to power the boards but I have seen problems with the knocker when using these since the knocker needs +30VDC.
May look for another PSU for just that voltage.

Andre,

Try Rav - I think he had a lot of spare QBert hardware at one point.

Is the powerplant notthe same as they used in their pinballs? Must be plenty of them laying around.

Mmmm, actually glad about that :)

Needs to be reworked, has some resistors that have seen a lot of heat, if they already still work....Q*bert PSU is not exactly known as a trouble free piece of hardware....

Few weeks ago our Q*bert went silent. No Knocker, no Sound. The Schematics for the PSU can be found at arcarc.xmission.com (as all of you surely knew...), but the trick hereby is to download the 'Q*bert Cubes' .pdfs. Its the same Cab, same Hardware. The 'Q*bert'-pdfs don't have the PSU included.

The Problem on our PSU has been the four rectifier-diodes, which feed the +30Volts. I replaced the 2N3055, too. Now all works smoothly.

Since the Q*Bert was fired up, I've tried a casual game and reached a new personal record (Level 7, Score 184.xxx)  :spaceace:

Gottlieb pins are also a pain to repair, or even to keep them running

Have you installed a 27V or 24V Zener diode on the PSU to lower the +30V ? It is advised to do so to prevent the sound amp....great score by the way !

I was considering going the switcher route, but I want the full power going to the knocker :) I guess it would be easy enough to further lower the power going to the sound board, I heard that more recent Q*berts had only like 15V coming out of that section....

I considered the option with the 27V Zener, but dropped it. I got a very stable 30.0Volt output. There seems to be a replacement Zener installed (pre-owner-wise).

Yesteday I´ve got a disturbed and shifted picture during sound-output. The problem seems not monitor related. I keep an eye on it.....
