Daytona USA view error...
« on: February 01, 2013, 07:51:52 PM »
I have had my Daytona USA for 4 years without any problems, until now.
Switched it on the other day, and player one´s view was totally NOT right..:

1st pic shows how it should look, 2nd is how P1 looks: (GREEN view option)

1st pic shows how it should look, 2nd is how P1 looks: (RED view option)

Something must be wrong with the ROM´s or??? - please help.

Jep. I did! Btw: Sorry for being late ... I've been sick for a week now. Damn flu is killing me. Anyway. I had simular problems ans many more on top! I had a single Daytona for about two years and that pile of junk smoked up TWO boardsets. I was almost there to rip everything apart and put an emulator in it.

But then came the cure in person of Ken Westerfield! His website is www.irepairsega.com. He fixed the two boards for a very decent price (compared to only one used boardset it was 50$ less the price for the repair of the two!! ;)). So I can absolutely recommend his work. Spoke to him on the phone. He used to be a Sega employee in the 90s and repaired (attention!!) about 4000 Daytona boardsets.

They ALL get this issues!! It's error by design. Sega used very a bad solder (technique) those days. The xxx legs of the custom chips detach from the solder pads. On many boards a complete reflow will fix all problems. Another major problem is that the power supplies tend to give to much power to the gameboard when getting hot. On my second board that killed the mask roms. So keep those fans turning! ;)
