31st of August 2012, D-1 before the ...

The cabinet I will bring to the 'party' will be PLEIADS by Irecsa (Spanish version 'licensed' of the game).
After moving few cabinets in the V1 game room, that Pleiads shouldn't be too much difficult to extract by now  roll eyes arrow

But.. why to bring this specific game?
First, there's is a kind of 'love' story between that Pleiads and the Netherlands.
That cabinet was operated in Belgium at the beginning of its live. At a certain point of time (early 2000 approx), this game was purchased for the Video Game museum in Mechelen, still in Belgium. The museum no longer exist, but there are sill few pages available here.
When the museum closed, some games (including Pleiads) were purchased by a collector in... the Netherlands.

In 2008, I was looking for a Space Wars cabinet, and finally found one on ebay. The seller also mentioned a Pleiads, I game I really enjoyed back in the days!
I cannot resist to take that one too!  Tongue  arrow

So the game is mine since 2008, and It has been restored to his full glory days since...  arrow

I thought it would be funny to bring back once again, for one day, that Pleiads, in the Netherlands...but this time, fully operational!  Wink
...oh, and the second reason for this choice was ... the cabinet was not too far from the game room exit, and it's a small cabinet, easy to move!  Grin

Ok, you know all now! Here's the beast before loading it in the car :

Once loading, I see the restoration wasn't totally finished!?  arrow

My first WIP in a car  Grin  arrow

Oh, and I'm also preparing the DLF/ALS, ready to be displayed for the second time  Smiley  arrow

1st of September 2012, this is it!

Departure in few minutes...

3 hours to drive? Pfff... let's say close to my house!  Grin  arrow

No traffic jam, easy road, nice music... and here we are already!

Preparation of the European Game Room of the day still in progress. After a warm welcome with the team/collector already there, we put my Pleiads in the row of games! We also fix the official ALS/DLF flag on a wall.

Suddenly, the police enter the place?!

I don't understand NL but I think Ckong explains them that the guns from the Wester Gun are not dangerous!  Grin

...and we don't plan to ride that bike on the road!  Grin  arrow

Hi & Atarimania installing the Warlords  arrow

On the other room (the bar), there is an impressive setup for the 'climax' of the day...

Aart van Vliet, official World Record holder on Galaxian will attempt to set a NEW WORLD RECORD at Eurocade 2012here, today, @ Eurocade 2012  Shocked Kiss !

He is really kind. I took this opportunity to ask many questions about Galaxian, which is in my TOP 3 games all time! He showed me few tricks, this safe spot for instance :

(click on picture to watch the video)

Watching him 'mastering' the game is totally incredible! Each shoot hits a bee! After practicing so much the game, he knows how the enemies react! How they move, how they become more aggressive! They are so much things to say about Galaxian, wooow!!! Awesome!  Kiss Kiss Kiss

He also watched me playing...but after my poor game, I felt like these guys  oppps  arrow

Ok, I let him quiet... His new WR (he's already the WR owner!) attempt will start l8ter...

Still in the 'bar area', the famous mini PONG  Smiley  arrow

Very well done, and perfectly playable!

Congratulation of this great job, Etienne!

Belike vs Darth Nuno ...or Darth Nuno vs Belike?!   Roll Eyes Tongue Grin

Back in the main room, new cabinets in the place... ChrisChris got with him my future cabinet his JUNO FIRST...

...he also got with him SuperUlly who got himself with him MAD PLANETS ...

...but unfortunately DOA (Death On Arrival)  Cry

Some sounds problem on the JUNO FIRST  confused ...but repair on progress?!  Wink

Yeah! Sounds are back... it would be a shame to play JUNO FIRST without the sounds... they are so amazing!  Kiss

OK, let check out what are the games here... this row looks interesting...

This area is quite nice too!  arrow

Wow, I didn't expect to see a fully Hang On DX working again! Last time it was at Fun Spot USA, and before that, it was when I had the same age than the kid on it  Wink

At the entrance, the Donkey Kong for the high score contest :

I can spot Vernimark, coming specially from Italy (Forza!) playing on Pleiads  arrow

Here a scene I've seen dozens of time that day... Mrs. & Ms. Atari playing the Ice Cold Beer...and PunkRockCaveman not too far  Grin arrow

Back in the 'pub area', where Aart 'PacWhiz' will start the WR attempt on Galaxian  Kiss  arrow

The cabinet is connected to this power protection unit...maximum precaution!

The game is recorded via a camera on a tripod, but also broadcasted worldwide on the web, via a mini USB camera located in the speaker hole of the cabinet.
A giant screen shows us what's on the screen. So we don't have to disturb Aart while his game.

Back on the main room...and the terrible addictive "Space Zap" :

...or an other way to play that game, by Speleo_de's daughter Cheesy  arrow

It seems that perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to take away.
— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: Terre des hommes

So simple...but so fun  Kiss  arrow

Good 80's atmosphere here!

Ok, let's continue to check each game, back to the first row at the entrance, where the Donkey Kong starts to be very played  Grin

Games for girls, sorry Muerto  Grin

How to practice DK when it's not accessible? Crazy Kong of course!  Cheesy

Mrs. Atari & Yoshi... on ICB  Cheesy  arrow

Never played an Amidar in its dedicated cab, coool  Kiss  arrow

Phoenix  Kiss ... loved the bright (and big?) screen!  arrow

My Pleiads, back in NL...

...but like my friend said...

The 'twin' cabinets/classics Ms Pac-Man & Galaga  Kiss  arrow

Nintendo powered!

The pinballs of the day...great selection  Smiley  arrow

- for the Top Gun theme (dawn, no law problems for a such plagiarism?)
- for the  siren  Tongue
- for the 'kitsch' factor  Grin

Too bad for the Mad Planets  Undecided ... Ully, you have to fix it for the next edition!

The Nintendo Red Tent (where is my Wonder Boy score done last year?) :

Warlords, in pristine condition  Kiss  arrow

Magical Spot 2 cocktail :

Juno First (soon mine, chrischis?  Roll Eyes Tongue Winkarrow

I love that picture ... two generations of players  Smiley  arrow

An other well know 'team' from Hungary  Smiley  arrow

The 'market' area :

Hey Superully, you got something for me, right?

Hell yeah... the set of 3 Tron Legacy collector toys... gift from Béla 'Belike'.... thhhhhhhhhaaaannnnnnnnnnks again!  arrow

Back in the bar room, where Aart is still going for a new world record... so far so good, yes!  Kiss

Back from the hotel...Aart is going well Smiley

... 864480 PTS so far!!!  Shocked Shocked Shocked!!!  arrow

We stayed a long time with Hi & Atarimania, watching him doing his score! He was in a kind hypnotic trance! Galaxian is not an easy game! You've to take risks all the time if you want to score high... mostly each time the yellow flagship diving with its 2 red escorts...and that's he did... man! So focused he was... but unfortunately ... it ends at 1.455.530 PTS

Phenomenal score! Incredible performance, thanks for this demonstration, Aart!  Smiley

Space Ace Space Ace Space Ace

After watching a world champion in action, I had to score on my favorite games, for example this wonderful Spy Hunter  Kiss  arrow

24870 PTS, not too bad for my second game on it, huh?  Grin  arrow

Here's some random pictures :

Steve Wiebe?  arrow

Now, let's plug the video camera and a make a round inside the game room. Everything is doing well until...

[click on the picture to watch the video]

...the fuses blow...at 1m38 sec!  Like the good old times Grin

It's time to eat...

A great gift for a great champion!  Smiley  arrow

...and back to the games! After the power failure, I had to put back a nice score on Galaga  Tongue  arrow

Psykick's next mission... beat me on Galaga!  Grin

Everybody was crazy about that Space Zap... let's try it for the first time!

189000 PTS, not too bad huh?  Cool

I also had a great game on Juno First...223710 PTS, Atarimania was my referee  Grin  arrow

Everyone want to score on DK  Cool arrow

The final result  arrow

Let's join Vernimark, very busy atm  Grin

Nice collection of cabinets  Smiley Cool fellows, Pac Man cake, coffee... what else?  Grin

Various pictures :

One word.... like the Death Star explosion... Brilliant!  Smiley  arrow

Players 'in action'

Come on guys, insert coins!  Grin  arrow

The Western Gun didn't pass the day.  Undecided Fortunately I had the chance to play it before the 'failure'...

It's late... some of us have a long way to drive... less and less cabinets, but the fun is still here  Smiley

The 'cade team had the great idea to print most of our games flyers in A3 format, displayed all along the game room...

...and at the end of the show, they generously given them to those who wanted them! Cool  Smiley  arrow

For me it's also time to leave the place. Here's I'm taking down my flag  Cool  arrow

A last shoot of the building, from the outside...

It's too l8te for me to drive back to Belgium now. I'll spend the night in the hotel.

2nd of September 2012, early in the morning, it's time to go home.

And few hours l8ter, I'm at home. The Pleiads is once again back in Belgium  Smiley

The 'goodies' of the WE  Tongue  arrow

It was a great meeting. Can't wait for the next edition!  Cool
