Finally some Kortek KFM-20 info !
« on: March 01, 2012, 03:27:23 PM »
Here's a rare one. The Kortek KTM-20 was clearly a model for Europe. It looked a lot like the Hantarex 900 and even has the same connections.

It can run from both 120VAC and 220VAC. I >>THINK<< it doesn't need an isolation transformer, but I am NOT sure.

Since I can't find a manual for it anywhere (nor for the KTN-20) and I just bought one I figured I'd make the list while I was cleaning it anyway.

The big filter cap seems to produce some nice gasses as the top is a nice round bulb, and I have seen this on KTN-20's too...

The caps brand is the world famous SamYoung (! :) ) and so might be not the best.... ;)

Anyway here my list:

Kortek KFM-20

C151,C409,C208(C206?)*     10u 50V
C207,C303,C401,C402           1u 50V
C209,C606                        220u 16V
C210,C212                          10u 160V
C213,C609                        100u 160V
C407                                  33u 16V
C502                                  10u 250V
C503                                  47u 50V
C504                                 3,3u 100V
C505                                 100u 25V
C507                                 470u 16V
C509                                 470u 25V
C605                                 680u 200V
C610 22u 160V

C605 is filter cap, check for bulb on top !

* => C208 seems to be labeled C208 on the parts side and C206 on the solder side !!!!

I just realized, that I have something similar with a nice vent on the top in my Nova Big Screen. :D
Just for info, the 2 green connectors in the middle of the pcb is normal and reverse yoke, you can flip the pic upside down within a minute with those.

And the remote pcb, I think it will be the right one this time. :D

It's indeed pretty similar but still different...
I see an extra vertical on the main PCB and also the extra stuff on the side of the metal is also different. And the neck board differs too because there are no (electrolytic) caps on the neck board on the KTM.

Can you look for a model name on your chassis. On the KTM it is near the big filter cap but doesn't look like so on yours...
Is that a med-res monitor ?

The pots may be right...gonna check my Joust now....

I tried to find the manufacturer, but there is no sign of it. :-\
Will check it again in daylight.

Béla, what you have is a Hantarex MTC 9110. It was used for tubes 25" and bigger. It's almots identical to the MTC9000, the fan over the LOPT is the main difference.

YES ! I had one in my Double Axle.... so that's a Hantarex......mmmmmm I think that Hantarex at one point in time (probably late 80s) decided to let their monitors be produced in Korea.....this would also explain the identical connecters and frame.

Good to know, thanks for the info. ;)
It is a 25" Hantarex tube I have there, so everything matches. :D

Naaahhhh, Hantarex never produced any tubes themselves. It's probably a Videocolor (which I still believe was simply a Philips tube) but the only "proof" I have is that the font on their labels is 100% the same)....

Mmmmm, pictures out of "the old shoebox"......my very first dedicated cab and my very first successful repair (not much to restore)....

Ahhhh good memories....my first dedicated cab ! My first success in getting it working again !
I obviously didn't have a great camera then though.... ;)

See the Hantarex label (then go down a bit and you see the "strip" label by "Videocolor". Philips used similar labels.

Yeah, I have that Hantarex sticker, but the videocolor is not present.

See it says MONITOR made by Hantarex......not tube or CRT... ;)

Whatever......I just tried to send them a Telex but I'm not sure if it arrived !!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I remember Telexing ! If you do, you are old. At my dad's office they had to type up a Telex (they used LOADS of "standardized" abbreviations because the cost of telexing was calculated both in "on line" time AND characters sent (!!!).....anyway they had to type up a Telex OFF line. Every key-stroke made a punch in a paper tape. When the tape/telex was finished they cut it and removed it from the machine and then loaded it into the reader. Only THEN they went "on line" with the receiver and because of the paper tape being read much quicker than anyone can type this saved a lot of money.....HAH those were the days :)
I also remember that my dad ordered one of the very first faxes as he saw the advantages of the system right away and thought it would replace the Telex quickly.....this was around 1980 and we were totally baffled to see a copy made through a telephone line from an original paper somewhere in Germany ! :)

OK...derailing ;)

OK just a bit more....

This was EXACTLY the machine they had:
http://link.marktplaats.nl/525747245

(Tempted tempted, but it's so HUUUUUGEE !!!)

Pic:

On the left you see the paper puncher (the little window with the four large buttons around it, under it the tape came out). On the right you see the punch tape reader....I still can hear how it all sounded :)

Later they also had a Siemens but this was already also computerized, it had a video terminal (as a back up/entry terminal), it still printed hardcopy of course) so it didn't require the punch tape anymore...

They used telex for a long time even when most western countries had long switched to fax because a lot of the more "distant" countries still only had telex. And for a time a Telex was legally binding while fax wasn't yet...

Heheh....of course there is a youtube video:

http://youtu.be/6lnl4kdgEzA

Notice how long it takes before the light burns (this indicated that the connection was established and ready so you could start the punch tape reading).
I definitely don't remember having to dial a number though....
