Where did this picture of Daphne and Dirk come from?
« on: January 02, 2012, 09:12:01 AM »
Hi fellow DL fans. I have a question someone might know the answer to. There are a few pictures available on the net with Princess Daphne and Dirk where Daphne isn't wearing a cape. Are these pictures from incomplete animation cel's or something? Or are they fan art? I've had these images in my collection for a while but I never noticed the missing cape before. I watched through both DL I and II on YouTube and I couldn't find Daphne anywhere without a cape. Here are two examples:

TIA!

Hello and welcome to DFL'  8)

I've never paid attention about that detail, but you're right, there's two different versions  :o

The original version is of course the one with the cape, but where this second version is coming from? I checked the special edition, and other version randomly (Cdi) but it's the original footage. I don't have the Wii version, so maybe it's taken from that version? Interesting question... hope someone here will have the answer  ::) I continue to search too  8)

The Voice of Daphne is Vera Lanpher, her ex Husband worked on DL Doing the Effects, Daphne's Gown/Cape is part of the effects, which are shown only in the game, The image is a still Photo/Cel so it would not have the effects!!

Finny is correct. It is effects.

If you look at my collection

You will see my Daphne cel

The covering is done with blackout:

The sparkles were done with this:

Hope that sheds some light on how they did things.

Thanks for the explanations guys.
I always thought that the different versions of the game were taken from the original footage THAT includes sparkles/cape.
But obviously a video was done without them for the ending sequence at last? An other example from the second link :

Those are probably still shots/Promo shots or just plain cel shots.

The cape, as you can see, was done with blackout (like green screen) and in DL2 it was done with a blue cel instead of black (I think in DL2 at least some part of the effect was done by computer and not by hand).

From what I have heard, but I could be wrong, the cape and sparkle effects were filmed separately and then overlaid on the original footage.
