I have a theory; (don't shoot me , its just a theory  ;D)

I think its not isolation that leaked, but just some grease

many time metal has a very thin film of oil or grease to prevent rust.
now the ptansformer is build out of many layers, and they all have this protection from the factory
so i think during years of use and thus years of heat the oil has "melted" and made its way to the bottom

there it collected on that spot into the wood, and it came loose when you removed it from the wood.

does that make any sence  ???  don't know, just thinking here  ::)

Size ? Well...CP size ;)

I've learned that is doesn't really matter much if you give them 1 or 10 parts, the set-up is the most work as I understood, so doing more usually doesn't raise cost. Some are not to keen on really small stuff.

Ully's powdercoater is really cheap IMHO. I paid like 75 IIRC for just one coin-door (because it had to become grey). Then a number of smaller parts and CP also cost me 75 because of all of them had to be done black.

Anyway, although powder coating is definitely the best way, it's also pretty expensive to do ....
I have called, and you are right, they calculate the startcosts which includes parts untill a certain size.
if its more then you pay more, but always the startup costs..  which where 82,50 where i asked..  :(

it always includes sandblasting since it needs to be absolutely clean for the powder to stick good to it.
the final price also depends on the ammount of sandblasting, as you can imagine the grid they use cannot be recycled once there is alot of old glue through it..

That's pretty expensive for just the ms pac man. That means i'll have to dismantle all my coin doors (and Etienne's crazy kong stuff) and bring them at once.  >:(

I think the best is to collect alot of metal for a "group powdercoat"
That way we can split the costs  :D

Oh, and insert old bolts in holes with threads..  ;)

Time to dig up an old thread.

Getting this baby ready for the side and kick-art installation.

Still need to paint the inside black (just one new layer, it wasn't half-bad) and the blue of course...

Now....do you guys thing I need to completely paint the sides with....the blue ?

Or would the stickers cover completely and not let shine through any remains so that I can only paint the edges ?

it depends on the thickness of the vinyl, e.g. you have to paint the cab underneath if you're suing the DK vinyl set from rich. i don't think that the stickers are die-cut, are they? because if they aren't, i'd simply cut off a small piece from the edges and test it on a spare piece of wood!

btw, good luck with the "operation"

You know very well why Etienne..... ;D

Thanks Ull...no they're not die-cut....good idea, however I dropped an e-mail to Darin from Phoenix and he advised to primer it because it will offer more "grip" for the adhesive (which makes sense).

So it will be primer and sanding and maybe a bit more primer and sanding....

I lack the time. I'll upload them to Flickr and post them again here, not sure what they all were though....

OK...I decided to do _another_ sanding session yesterday, by hand and with fine paper.......still found some spots I need to fix with bondo.......
Then I'll do the primer and then the inside black (should be just one layer, did some fine sanding there too, the black was actually still in pretty good condition.

A final look at the remains of the original artwork.......bye bye  ::) ::)

Nice fresh layer of black on the inside. Cheap-o paint is covering great and works fine. I only had to lightly sand the black area and did one layer.

All the rest (except the bottom) is now in gray primer. I can see some "not-perfect" spots now. It was really hard to spot them with the old artwork still there.
May need to redo some spots with polyester putty (often called Bondo) when it's dry...

So, only a few more days for this lady before she will a nice new and shiny look. Can´t wait for the tons of pictures that you guys undoubtedly will make during the process.

I still have stencil sets for my pac-man and ms. pac-man, but so much hesitation to use them. I saw the great result of Robinhollandd´s pac-man with the sticker applied, and want to know how your ms. pac is going to look. Might just turn me over to ditch the stencils and go the easy way with stickers also.
