Hantarex crumbling HV cups....
« on: September 11, 2011, 10:58:04 PM »
As Euro arcade collectors we all know about the good (excellent picture) and bad (several issues) things about the Hantarex monitors, esp. the 900 (not the 900E).

One of the problems is always the $&^&)&^# transparent HV cup. I mean, what were they thinking, hey let's make it transparent so we can see if there's anything flashing under there ??
And this while everybody knows that transparent plastics start to get brittle after about 30 years. Tsss, they should have thought about us then ;) ;) ;)

Anyway, we are stuck with it. I've seen several "solutions" for this. Kit, glue, other goo-ie stuff....it's all only a half-solution.
The real solution would be replacing the cap with a non see-through one. I think I found a source for these (one's you can install on an existing HV lead) BUT of course Hantarex tried to improve things and used this weird two-wire HV lead with the "connector".

They describe it in the manual as an improvement. Anyway, what I want to know, what is in that little "connector" ? I think it's a resistor and maybe a capacitor ?

The manual shows this:

My guess it's that resistor and cap on the left of the tube, leading to ground (R144 and C96). Anyone know if this is correct ?

With these values we could try to find a replacement lead.

Sorry André, are you asking for the box lying underneat the cup (see the arrow in the image that follows)?

If yes, when i have the opportunity to find a 100% not working fly i will check  ;)

Yes !

Do those flybacks go bad often ? I think I rarely read about them going bad. I know they are supposed to not be available anymore, but I may have found a source....

Yes, they do go defective, I have one out of three chassis, where the HV Unit went bad.

Well I found this:

http://www.donberg.ie/descript/h/hr_6051.htm

Sent them an e-mail. Also if that price was correct...... ::)

The manufacturer is (was) HR diemen in Spain. They indicate the HR 6051 is not in stock there anymore...

For my Atari 19" Matsushita CRTs I ended up ordering directly to HR in Spain via an italian distributor. They agreed to build 5 replacement flybacks (no less than that) just for me. Had to wait more than a month but now I have my monitor fixed.

For the MTC900 (not MTC900E) I would be in for a couple of Flybacks (3 or even more...). Maybe we can arrange a group buy?

You were faster, I wanted to advise the same, I'm in for a bigger quantity if it is possible somehow. ;)
