Space Pirate, emergency!!!
« on: August 18, 2011, 10:05:39 PM »
The Space Pirate is at my Old Friends place atm., he was able to fix that terrible sound, but he informed me that the screen has a horizontal collapse and he didn't find the solution yet.
The game is running, but there is just a horizontal line on the screen.(I'm almost sure it's horizontal, not vertical).
Seems like he is not an expert in vector games, because he don't know if it is a pcb or chassis problem.(I'm almost sure it is the chassis) ;D
I gave him a complete but untested Cinematronics Rip Off pcb today, he will try to test it tonight, let's see if it helps.
If anybody have some idea about fixing this problem, please shout asap, we will have to take a ride soon with my beloved SP. ;)

What about checking the power transistors that do vertical deflection?
First check is vertical deflection signals are there, if yes, next step is the vertical output power stage.

Thanks for the tip Matteo, seems like it was fixed, there was a broken fuse socket, the monitor is fully working by now. ;D
Sad news, that the sound is not 100% perfect, that terrible interference is gone, but some effects are missing. :-\
Anyway it's 100% playable and most of the sounds are present, so I can take it with me to the biggest show on earth this year. ;D

I made some further testing with the sounds, seems like all sounds are present, but shooting is much louder than the others. If I turn the sound pot up, the background sounds and explosions can be heard but very quietly and shooting is extremly loud, I jumped back from the cab after the first shot. ;DIf I turn the volume down to make the shooting sounds normal, nothing else can be heard.
I found a nice website with the manual of Rip Off, I guess the audio pcb is the same with the Space Pirate.
http://outerworldarcade.com/arcade/rip_off/index.html
Manual here:
http://outerworldarcade.com/arcade/cinematronics/manuals/RipOff_Manual.pdf
The section with the audio details starting from page 30., but it doesn't tell too much to me.
What do you experts think, it is an easy fix (maybe we can take a look at it before the show starts), or I just leave it like that?
I know Eurocade is not about repairing, I just asked. ;D

Yeah, it is fu....ng Picassa, I've been trying to contact those smart asses at Google, but nobody responded in the past 3 weeks.
Finally a guy from some forums helped me, the missing pics appeard again in the albums of picassa, some of them could be seen in our forums, others not.
I'm on it. ;)
Unfortunately I don't have more pics about my old friend, but I will try to shoot some sneak pics at his retro workshop, it rocks. ;D
