An amateur's start on artwork - Armor Attack CPO
« on: May 04, 2011, 05:59:40 PM »
Hi All,

last weekend I made an attempt to re-create the control panel overlay for our Armor Attack from Rock-Ola. The machine is from the famous Belgium warehouse and was brought to me by Level42 a loooong time ago ;) thanks again, André.

In fact the PCB is still not working but the monitor does and so the power supply so it was time to tackle the cigarette burned CPO.

To be honest, Adobe Illustrator is still too complex for me and so scanned the CPO and rebuilt the graphics with Powerpoint, the results are not too bad.
I have made it larger to 80x20cm to match a format on the PosterJack website where I ordered a adhesive backed print.
The original is only 61,0x19,8cm. Received the printout and its not too bad from a color matching perspective. Will stick it to the panel this evening.

This is the PDF : http://www.andysarcade.de/data/coinop/videogames/vectorgames/armorattack_rockola/panel_final_v2b.pdf
This is a PNG : http://www.andysarcade.de/data/coinop/videogames/vectorgames/armorattack_rockola/panel_final_v2b_1.png

That would be great.

What would you need? The powerpoint? The scans? Everything is here ...

Re Colors. I had to make a choice before sending it for printing. They are not completely accurate. The orange came out pretty good, the blue is a little off, but good enough for. But I have kept samples of the old CPO ;)

Okay, i have moved thisone to the top of the vector que  ;)

I started to stitch the two scans together and position them on "the grid" that i have made in Illustrator based on the measurements that was provided in the excel file:

Basicly there are two objects to create, 1 orange and 1 blue.

I have made a "measurement sketch" and i have some values..

Can you verify / deliver me the following ? :

A=
B= (from the top of the CPO please)
C= (hole diameter)
D=105.5 mm.
E=79 mm.
F=86.5 mm.
G= 149.8 mm.

Thanks !

Cool

Okay, a little inside about the job.

I know you guy's like to look in the kitchen  ;D

Lets start with the "control art"

I created a arrow with 2 basic objects, a retangle and a circle joined together, copied it 2 times, rotated them 45 degrees and stitched everything together.

the tank is build up from rectangles too wich are also stiched together so it is one compound path

Then the "rotate" indicator:
two circles with the correct dimention are the base..

I sliced them up at the "bottom" of the arrow, and added triangles as arrowpoints

deleted the parts after deviding it that where too much..

And this is the result after exactly centering everything and changing the color to white..

Later i will cut them out of the orange so the orange will be a compound path.

Later more my friends  ;)

Now that looks cool and was soooo quick. wow  8)

What I have noted: The three tanks on the right side do need to have have their tail/lower end filled with white.

I am very happy that I can report that the Rock-ola Armor Attack CP looks absolutely fabulous in real life  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

And it's definitely a very fun game too !!! Really impressive how the turrets of the tanks move to aim at you while the tank itself drives/moves in other directions. I wonder if the people from Tron were inspired by this game...
Definitly one of the better Cinematronics games. I'm glad that this machine ended up in the hands of the guy who I knew would get it running.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
