Dragon's Lair II : a decent restoration!
« on: June 18, 2007, 08:03:50 PM »
Hello guys,

I'm new on the boards, but met a little bit Nuno on the french gamoover forum, and asked him a little bit about the DL cabinets before buying it.

I recently bought a Dragon's Lair II cabinet with a Space Ace 91' kit in very good shape, but the cabinet is not working properly, I have a fix picture when I put it on.

So I'll share on this topic the progress of this hard task :)

PART I :

I disassembled everything (no picture)

PART II : First Side Art + Back Restoration

I have a big hole in the back of the cabinet, with a lack of one of the 2 wheels+ steel system.(if anyone has one in spare, we can dream!).

II/1/ Fix the detached wood parts.
For this, I used a little syringe to put the wood-stick between the 2 parts

II/2/ Rebuild the hole
For this, I used synthetic wood. Pretty hard thing and boring thing for me.

At that moment, I did 2 mistakes :
- I tried to repair the 2 wood parts
- I didn't take off the black vynil on the areas.

After 2 hours, I suceeded to put off this sh***t, and finally redid back some of the work.

After that, I took off the 2 wood parts, and redid it with some wood

Let's do some Paint!

Result :

Stay tuned( copyright Nuno)

Hello Darth,
In fact I carried this cabinet in 2 times, one with the parts, and one with the wood base. and during the second part package, I can't find that fucking video cable...
I'll buy one this week. I repaired the wood and the side arts, will take pictures tomorrow of the cabinet. I still need to find some new T-Molding, and new Plexi for the CPO.

The version is a USA/Leland, with impression quality of manufacturing...

So it isssssss workingggggg! ( hard to play with one hand..)

The problems still to solved are :
- the image is pretty.. blury, in the sens it is " shaking". Is it normal?
- I still cannot put off the DL II LD. I'd like to have a try at Space Ace to see it's working properly, but no eject...

Any help?
Maybe I can send the LD player to a local repair man...

Update with a new problem :

During game, sometimes, the LD does a noise like the engine of a sick aircraft.. BROOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRR BROOOOOOOO.
I put off, then on, and all is working fine.

The semi-finished product. I'll certainly in the near future repaint the kickplate + clearcoat it, and change the big T-molding of the CPO.
Touchups had been done on the 2 art sides.
Corners had been repaired/repainted, new T-Molding, all cleaning, new paint of the upper side / back of the cab.
