Newbie Question about a Kortek Monitor and Soft 15khz
« on: March 13, 2011, 06:27:25 AM »
Hello everyone! This is my first post here, but I have been lurking around these forums for quite some time now. I made a post over at BYOAC about a DK restoration I am working on. I plan on using a PC in the cabinet since money is tight and I want to be able to play more than just DK. I am going to post a link to my original post with pics over at the "Build your own arcade controls forums". Unfortunately no one has really chimed in with the info I need and everyone on this forum seems to be spot on and very knowledgeable. I have a really nice Kortek monitor that seems to be the same size as the Sanyo from the Nintendo cab. Seems like there is a band around the monitor just like on the Sanyo so I can swap the mounting hardware. My original monitor has some screen burn and issues with the CRT's gun. Red is on the brink! This Kortek was donated by a friend from some generic cabinet we cant ID and was in perfect working order with an amazing picture.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=110275.msg1168281#msg1168281 there is the link to the post.

Hopefully the post over at BYOAC will make sense as I was on some pain medication when I made the post.

ALSO this post over at the KLOV forums seems to be the same monitor as mine

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=102148 seems like it is a KTM-F20 maybe? Also looks like I am going to need a different isolation transformer to run this monitor. Due to a voltage diff between the sanyo and the kortek. I have been doing some research but am still a bit confused about the whole thing. I am kinda new to this hobby. I am hoping my health improves so I can go back to work and start collecting games!

Also if I decide to do a cap kit on one of my Sanyo chassis/boards what are the odds of the Samsung tube on the Kortek being used with the Sanyo hardware?

I am really excited about getting this machine restored. I am doing a bit more sanding and patching before I bring her in the house for primer and paint. I am going to take my time with the prep work. I want this machine to look as close to perfect as I can get it. I will post pics soon as I get some decent progress made.

I envy you guys from across the pond since you have the CRT TV's with the SCART RGB input. But I think this monitor I have will work out nice.

Thanks in advance and I am glad to be part of this forum finally! There are some amazing scratch builds and restorations over here. The stuff I have seen to date has consistently blown my mind!

My name is Adam BTW saying hello from the commonwealth state of Virginia in the USA!

For any Soft15Khz related Problems I'd recommend www.arcadeinfo.de which includes an official Soft15Khz support subforum moderated by Sailorsat (including an english section).

Hello adalektookmysoda and welcome here   :)

Sorry but no experience at all in Soft15Khz for me. When I have to emulate I game, I use Advance Mame DOS + a compatible graphic card (mostly very old ATI AGP card) and If I have to go with the XP way, I always use an ArcadeVGA with the driver/config working 'out of the box'.

I guess what I am most curious about is powering the monitor. Does it hook directly into the isolation transformer (the iso transformer being hooked to the PSU of course) ? Thanks for the link I will do some reading on soft15khz.

In general monitors do that yeah..
its depending on the monitor ofcourse, but the ones i have seen where wired through a transformer..
