Tomorrow it's time for the annual 31 December tradition ....
« on: December 30, 2010, 07:41:31 PM »
.... which here in the East part of The Netherlands is CARBID Shooting. For those of you who don't know how it works: you need a big drum, like an oil drum, a big milk barrel or something like that. The drum has two openings, a small one at the bottom and a big opening at the top. Inside the drum goes a chunck of carbid. Then you put some water on the carbid, so it developes an explosive gas. For fun you can put a football on the top opening. Then ignite the gas by means of an electric wire with a car spark plug attached to it and a car battery. The gas will explode and the football will shoot away, far away. Oh, and you hear a very loud bang.

Fun guaranteed, also because there will be beer, Jägermeister and Oliebollen.

Here are a few examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk5YUQPNkEw&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUWj-J7zIVk&feature=related

We will not do it like this, but we will have a constellation of 18 big drums in a row which will be ignited rapidly after each other. and best part is that you only need a little piece of carbid for a whole day of fun.

And I wish everyone a very good 2011, with lots of love, health, fun and great arcade lifestyle experiences.

Please share your local year end traditions here, I would love to know what is tradition in other countries.

Does anybody know if Toremolinos, Marbella or any other beach village in the vicinity of Malaga still has an arcade that is open on 31st december?

Well it's just "usual" fireworks over here in the Western part of Holland. However, Dutch (legal) fireworks have become shitloads of paper with a tiny bit of "gunpowder" inside.
Next year I will do a road-trip for some "cabs" to Belgium  ;D ;D

It's the same here in Denmark,

The "legal" fireworks is also totally boring compared to just 5-10 years back in time...
But we also had a big disaster in a Firework factory that exploded...  :-\

And happy new year to everyone... ;)
