Added another tool for my hobby: CRT Rejuvenator !
« on: December 08, 2010, 08:56:51 PM »
I bought one of these:

I saw one at the recent German arcade party and talked about it with Speleo.

He suggested to search for this brand, and actually the "intelligent' version BMR-95

However, the prices I found were pretty high for those, and all in Germany. By doing some searching on Marktplaats I found one in Holland but it was this model, the BMR-80. This is a "manual" rejuvenator. Much like similar B&K rejuvenators.

For those who don't know what you can do with them: You can check the condition of CRTs with it and (if needed) you can rejuvenate ("renew") them.

Works on any B/W or color tube.

Will give it a test drive tonight on a "spare" tube (the burnt Ms.Pac Man tube)....

Only thing missing is the original manual but Speleo already mailed the German one (which is a bit hard to read because of all the translated terms, but I'll figure it out).

The one I bought was from a pretty old friendly guy who said he bought it when it was new (!) and did use it every now and then but that he was now mainly working on jukeboxes. Haven't checked it very thoroughly but what I saw is that it looks like BRAND NEW !

It's easier to move that suitcase than moving a monitor, so I suggest a mobile rejuvenating service right across europe  ;D

There of course will be a fee.

One Paul's 50's cab per rejuvenated CRT.

Yes I do,but they are probably not the same as the B&K's.

Forgot you had one. Pretty funny I got a German rejuvenator and you have a US built one.

I did also see a B&K 470 but that has only one meter (need to switch between the three color guns) which I didn't like.
The 467 is better because it also has 3 separate meters.

OK I played around a bit with a VERY gone tube (Ms.Pac's very burnt one).

The guns measured out pretty good still. Only the green was a bit weaker then the others. The Muter offers rejuvenation in 3 "levels". Tried clean first (just to play around, this tube is already written-off because if the burn-in). Didn't have any effect. Next tried the second level. Now the gun measured out MUCH worse than it was (I did like the micro-fireworks in the neck though  ;D) . With the 3rd (highest) level I managed to get it back in the "good" range again, but the lesson learned (what I already knew): don't rejuvenate when not ABSOLUTELY necessary !

There's some calculations and graphs going on to fully measure the guns. I will create an excel sheet that will do the work (like creating the graphs for all 3 guns).

Wanted to test-drive another tube but had no luck. The tube is a A 51-211 X. The Muter table (thanks Speleo !) says I should use adapter 813. I've got it BUT the neck connector is of a different type. (For Speleo: it looks like the 803 connector).
I think I should be able to remove the connector to work straight on the pins, but still I found this a bit weird...

Stupid Hantarex ;)

Anyway, went through the entire manual and it's not hard to do, but you do have to know WHAT to do.

I'm happy that I already have the right adapter for the Amplifone tube (808). Not that I would even consider playing around with that one, but IF it will go bad in xx years......
