Galaxian Theatre 6 - Repair Help Needed!
« on: November 29, 2010, 12:12:05 AM »
Hello!
We have a Galaxian 6 still in operation - however one of our PERSONAL PCB's has decided to stop working - just comes up with a red LED on the board instead of the green. Have tried swapping it with the others and the problem follows the board.

Anyone know who may be able to service this board, have spares, or advice on troubleshooting this?  Likely this is the ONLY one in Canada and probably one of the few still in operation in North America so we'd still like to keep it running!

Have recently upgraded it to Zolgear, but think I might change it back to Dragoon (better game IMHO!)

Any help or advise is most appreciated!

Thanks!

I don't know how much he knows about Galaxian Theatre, but John Robertson is in Canada and has been repairing boards for practically as long as games have existed.

You could always try contacting him. His website is at http://www.flippers.com/

I do know John @ Johns Jukes quite well - it is definitely worth a shot - thanks for the advice!

I also have a Starblade (Yellow seat) - is there a personal PCB in that game that may be compatible?

Anyone interested in a nice condition Starblade by the way?  Running out of room!

In Regards to Galaxian, I think I need to install new projectors in it - I can't find the specs for the original projectors - however there is another guy who specializes in CRT Projectors in Vancouver, BC (close to me) and have a lot available for great prices - I have looked at the projectors inside but from where they are mounted I can't get a model # other than that they are Sony.

Any help?

Starblade and Galaxian3 do share some PCBs, Bruno did some work into this, look here;

The setting of DIPSW is different from Zolgiar.
Check it.
MasterCPU PCB SW4 No5,6=OFF (Dragoon) / ON (ZOLGEAR)
Slave CPU PCB SW4 No1,2=ON  (Dragoon) / OFF(ZOLGEAR) No5,6=OFF (Dragoon) / ON (ZOLGEAR)

Three personal PCB is same PCB.
As for a red lamp, the system works.
It is not possible only to operate it.
I want you to teach the state of LED of Master-CPU PCB.
If it is normal, LED 16 pieces all lights or it blinks.
Some hints might be able to be taught.

If the system works
There is a possibility when personal PCB and the communications error occur.
This is repaired in many cases by the change of IC56 SN75158 and IC60 SN75157.
Please consult if the change is difficult for myself.

Where in BC are you?  I am originally from Calgary, but I live in the Seattle area now.
