[Road Trip] Picking up some classics
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:27:56 PM »
Yes! Time for another road trip. ;D This one is going to be very special. Ronald Reagan and I are going to pick up 3 (ultimate) classic cabinets from Paul 50's.  :P
The games are: ms pac man (for my brother), donkey kong jr (for Ronald) and donkey kong for me!  :P ;D :)

As usual we start in Hilversum, we have to travel more then 530 kilometers to get to paul 50's place in Lohne, Germany

Our (very expensive) transportation for the day

This time we took a mascot along with us, it's a present my grandmother bought in New York when i was 4 years old :D

Our trip starts very good, we took the wrong way, which leads us to Baarn  >:(

But soon we find the freeway again  :D

Just some boring freeway pictures, nothing special

After 1.5/ 2 hours of driving we reach the german border

We stop for some road trip food  ;D

and here we go again.

there it is, Paul 50's place, i love the sign/ logo  :D

we took a look around at paul's place because he had some other costumers.

great cabinets, i wish i was a lot richer

battle zone  :o

mario bros wide-body  :o

a red donkey kong cab

and here is mine, a baby blue donkey kong

ronald reagan his donkey kong jr

and my brother his ms pac man

paul is also a collector himself  ;)

after some talk we load the cabs inside the van and hit the road again.

a short stop for some food. yes, i know the wrong company but our hunger was just too big  >:(

3.5 hours later we stop at my brothers place to deliver his pac man

it's in pretty good condition, better then mine  :(

and here is the donkey kong, it will need a lot of work but i'm still very, very happy with it

I also think it's very cool that i got a japanese cab

so after almost 8 ours on the road this trip is officially over. We would like to thank Bruno and Paul for making this happen :spaceace: :spaceace:

Nope, only the jr is working at the moment (with some missing characters onscreen).  >:(

I think a new pcb will fix the pac man, mine dk needs a lot of work, i'll open a restoration topic soon.

Yes, I am very happy with my cab. I will upload pictures of it later. It is in pretty good condition. ;D ;D :spaceace:

Stuff grumpy Gyruss forgot to mention:

Paul told us some interesting stories about importing the cabs to Europe. He stated, that what Nuno with the ninty's and Ckong with the PacMan deal, pulled off is quite unique. As a music box and pinball seller, he stated that in those communities, bulkdeals like that could have never happened. He also said the MK and Terminator etc. were part of the bulkdeal he had to made. Besides that, his second shipment container was full and he said some 6 to 8 cabinets where still waiting for him in the US to be shipped the next time. Don't know about any titles of cabs.

As for World of Lies, Paul told us that he did some business with him too, and World of Lies never paid him. He just doesn't feel like paying. Listening to his stories, you start to realize what a total dickhead this guy must be, selling stuff to other people that doesnt even belong to him!! crazy

When we started uploading the cabs in the van, I think it was Paul's dad who coordinated the whole stuff. Very nice man, and he made sure all the cabs were safe and sound for our roadtrip back.

On our way back, we passed 2 Burger Kings, but we missed the exits!! F*CK, we were so hungry.

When we got home, we were just half an our late to return the van to the rental company. Which costs us another day rent. CRAP!
Anyhow, we were really happy with our cabs. Never even thought about owning one someday.  :ghost: :spaceace: :spaceace:

Great story guys. Love the pics, and why is McDonalds a lesser company. I happen to like them a lot.

Gyruss, is this your brother's first cab? Did you give him the FEVER;D

I wish you a lot of fun with restoring your cab, it's always great to make something pretty special looking pretty nice.

And I think that our little community has built up quite some credit with Paul, I sure hope that he has gotten the taste of it and that we will see more classics in the future.

yes I think you are right about the credit part.

We instructed and adviced him with several titles from cabs that he would certainly sell, like: Q-bert, Tapper, BurgerTime, Donkey Kong etc. But he also stated that he doesn't want to end up with too much stock. I think he has over 30 cabs right now, and he wants to sell them first I guess, before he starts importing new containers again.
He also said that he had a lot of emails on his ebay postings, so I think he will sell his stuff pretty fast
