Roadtrip to the Abandoned warehouse.
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:57:04 PM »

Yesterday I found a Double Dragon cab for sale not too far from Budapest in the nice historical city of Eger and because we planned some excursion and bathing for Sunday, it was a perfect reason to take a look at the sellers place .
Eger is 140 km. from Budapest and it has a beautiful old downtown and a Castle in the  middle of the city.
It became famous in the middle ages when the Defenders ;D of the castle could stop the Osman(turkish) empire to conquer our ancient country.
We started with my GF. around 9 in the morning

In Hungary there were heavy rains in the past 3 weeks, so 10 thousands of peoples had to leave their homes

The hungarian way to transport hay ;D

We hopped into the local plaza for breakfast and the first place we saw was an Arcade! ;D
(Star Wars Trilogy, House of the Dead 4, Sega Rally, Gunblade, Time Crisis)

We arrived at the seller's palce, it was a near collapsing old warehouse

The first 2 cabs I saw was Turbo Outrun and Ikari Warriors in an opened part of the warehouse

Than the guy opened the door and the first thing I recognized  was some green insect on a sidepanel ;D

This pic is 18+, when I moved a cab to take a better look at the Galaxian, a mumificated bird was fallen to my head :o

The ghosts looking around what else we could find here, than they realized that it was a Pole Position 2 with the bird mummy ;D

OK, i see there is also a Vindicators 2 in the pic, but please be patient ;D

Here it is

We went out and took a look at the bigger opened warehouse, there were tons of different cabs and slot machines and I saw this:

I think it's a Dig Dug, but it was impossible to reach :-\

I tried to reach the dig dug from the other side, but I failed >:(

Stepped on the Outrun to reach higher

Found the marquee of the Turbo Outrun(monitor missing, control panel terrible condition) it was very nice, I took it ;)

Found a Moon Alien 2 cocktail with a broken glass

Found a lot of pcbs and parts, I took all of the boards(about 25)

The Double Dragon that I originally wanted to buy was also in terrible condition, no pcb, no wires, no power supply, front wooden panel is broken, control panel was curved and full of cigarette burns, so I decided to leave it there.
I had space for 3 cabs so I took the PP2 first(no pcb, wires missing from control panel)

Than came the Galaxian(no marquee, cpo, bezel not original, otherwise it's complete with pcb)

The third one is a Satan of Saturn(pcb missing), was one of my favourites

Please no comments! ;D

There was also 2 bingo machines, could be very old

When we finished loading the van, we took a walk in the city around the castle

Than we had time to visit the thermal bath in a very nice place in the middle of a forest near the city

Arrived home about 7, I was extremly tired, so I asked my girlfriend to unload the van alone ;D(just kidding) ;D

So the Roadtrip was about 300 km. long and last about 10 hours.
The 3 cabs, the more or less 25 pcbs and the Outrun marquee was 70 eur! ;)
The guy told me, there is another warehouse in the same city with working and complete cabs, he will take a look at it next week and inform me about the news. ;D
I will make a list from the pcbs I bought, I think most of them are broken, but 90% original, so if anyone need them for parts send me pm.
I think the Pole Position 2 will be hard to restore, because a lot of wires and also the pcb is missing, so if anybody have parts for this cabinet, or can take a photo from his own from inside, don't hesitate to contact me. ;D
Btw. anybody knows, that PP1 and PP2 pcbs and wireings are compatible with each other?
That's it for today. ;)

Love the story....sad to see the condition of the cabs but you deserve  :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: for rescuing a Namco/Bertollini Galaxian cab !!!! I love that one more than the Bally/Midway version !
The PP2 is very nice too, hope you can find _working_ parts.
Satan of Saturn, never played that in the 80's but it looks like a nice one !

Great story, great catch, hope the other warehouse has some more great stuff !
Any  original (Ms.) Pac board in that lot ?

Oh, and you guys should really fire the current trainer of your national soccer team, he sucks. I know because he sucked when he was the trainer of my favorite Dutch team as well. His brother isn't really doing much better as a coach. They were great players, but as coaches, they didn't reach very much :D

wow, thx a lot for sharing this great story - nice pictures, great weather. it would have been depressing to do the same trip on a rainy day. but man, how can someone let cabs literally rot cabs away like that? why didn't you take the ikari warriors? although it looks pretty beat, this is one of the games i NEED to add to my collection. it has the wrong joysticks, but the rest is there. are you going there again to rescue it ;) ;) ;)? and that did dug needs to be freed from the warehouse as well!!!
have you had the chance to see every part of the warehouse or at least to peek into every corner? who knows what's buried underneath? and then the news of another warehouse - you must be thrilled!

congratulations on your three new babies, although they look damn old already ;). they're going to require a lot of work, but with enough patience you could make them shiny and new.

- saturn of saturn: never heard or played before
- galaxian: the namco version :o
- pole position 2: this will probably be the most difficult one to get up and running, pp boards are a pain in the a**

once again: congrats!!! and good luck with the other warehouse

btw, do you have a gameroom for your games? and what does your girlfriend think of your hobby? she seems to be very supportive ...

Yhaaaaaaa! Arcade Warehouse stories are the best  :-*

What a magic moment... you're entering the warehouse ... without knowing what's inside ... and ... what a surprise ... Namco's GALAXIAN  :o ! I'm officially jealous now! Congratulation  :)

Regarding this picture

What is the game behind the Pole Position? It looks like a mini-cabaret game (like some model of Gorf or Asteroids for example?)...

The Ikari looks not too bad according the pictures... this would need to be saved  ::)
I've never head about Satan Of Saturn... hey... it's an early shooter (a la "Pleiads') made by SNK in 1981. You give me the need to try it  :P

Regarding the Pole Position, you're right... the side art is very great  :) It reminds me the comic book "Michel Vaillant" :

Thanks for sharing this adventure with us  :-* Homepage of course  ;)

wow! great story with beautiful pictures. I love those old warehouse photo's with all kind of different cabs stashed up together. Must have been an awesome feeling when you entered that place. With knee high grass and dead birds haha. EPIC story
I would have gone for the Ikari Warriors myself but the 3 cabs you have taken with you are awesome too. Can you make a list of the CPO's and the PCB's you found?

I am curious about your next warehouse trip!!

Thanks guys, it was really a great day ;D
Andre:I didn't see any pacmans among the pcbs, but I will send a list today with pics. ;)
I don't know too much about football, I'm a fan of winter sports and F1, but I look after what we can do with this idiot coach! ;D
Ully:If I will have time and can steal a truck from my company, I will go back for the Ikari and for the bingo machines this week and I also have to try to free that Dig Dug, but I think a forklift is needed to unload the surrounding stuff, there was a huge casino machine that blocked the way. :(
My cabs are separated in 2 levels of my house at the moment, not really gamerooms but I have no other options atm.My girlfriend also like this games, especially pinballs and I can count on her anytime I need help.
This is her favourite, cause they were born in the same year(1978) ;D

Bruno:Yeah, it was a stunning moment to recognize the Galaxian ;D
The cab you saw in background is a Shinobi, but nothing was original in it(marquee, bezel, cpo replaced) and the sidepanels was painted to blue or something.Maybe the original sideart is under that painting.
I try to go back and save what I can, cause this place will be destroyed in a few weeks by a bulldozer. :o
