Seattle gamer John McAllister is, as of this writing, on pace to break one of the most legendary World Record scores in video gaming history.
When a New Jersey gamer named Scott Safran sat down on November 13, 1982, he turned out a World Record score that has stood since.  Safran's 41,336,440 points was so far up there that some said it could never be beaten, requiring a combination of skill and endurance combined with the modern-day reliabilty of 1979 Atari engineering that few were willing to try and tackle.
As many legendary classic gaming records have fallen in the past couple of years, from Donkey Kong to Pac-Man and Frogger, Gorf, Track & Field, and many others, the Asteroids record remained and some said could continue to.
As of 7am Central (5am in his timezone) on April 5, John McAllister has passed the 30,000,000 point mark, a mark that would be third place all time on the Twin Galaxies scoreboard, and is an estimated 11 to 12 hours away from passing the late Safran's legendary score.  McAllister already has the record on numerous other classic titles, such as Asteroids Deluxe, Star Castle, and Section Z.

UPDATE: 12:23am Central (10:23am John's time) 41,338,740 points... McAllister did it and stopped.  Twin Galaxies founder Walter Day called it historic in a call he put into me.  Score will now be sent to Twin Galaxies for official verification.  CONGRATS JOHN!

But will that work on any game ?  I mean there are lot's of games that only give you one extra life (like f.i. Ms.Pac Man)
......seeing that video REALLY doesn't want to make me think about it anymore !

Fair, everyone used/uses the speed-up hack to do marathon scores on Asteroids, it was/is the standard from the early '80s on. So he did not cheat.

I watched the stream all day on Sunday... Just incredible.
Donkey Kong - 284,200 points
Swimmer - 40,950 points
