Bela, new member from Hungary.
« on: February 21, 2010, 08:39:25 AM »
Hi Guys,

First of all, I would like apologize for my poor English, I'm from Hungary and when I was a child in the 80's we were forced to learn russian, all the other foreign languages were diasallowed in those years.
Paul recommended me to visit your website and I was glad to see, that there are still a few arcade maniacs in Europe like me. ;)
Atm. I have four original Zaccaria cabinets(2 phoenix,1 scramble and another phoenix pcb in a starplash), 2 pinballs(Locomotion from Zaccaria and a Poker Plus from Recel)2 general jamma cabinets(one with a big screen) and about 20-25 pcbs from the 80's.
I'm planning to to inform you time to time about the dedicated machines for sale in hungarian auctions sites, maybe you can find something interesting.(atm. I saw a House of the dead(~500 eur) and a Time crisis(~200 eur) both of them in nice working condition).
Paul was so nice and took some pics from my Zaccaria collection to his website, you can see them there.
I wish all the best for you and kind regards from Budapest.
Bela

Hi Bela, and a warm welcome to you  :)
Thanks for posting in English.
Zaccaria cabinets? Sounds interesting (any pictures by the way)... I'm wondering what was the arcade machines in Budapest back in the 80's... did you have dedicated games? Imported? ...or mostly generic cabinets' maybe? Of course don't hesitate to share you 'arcade' stories right here  ::) :-*
Be yourself at home :-*

Some Arcade history from Budapest:
There was an Amusement park in the middle of the city(still exists) and the only Arcade in Hungary was there. There were huge rows in front of each games, sometimes we had to wait more than an hour to play.1 credit was 5 forints, which is 2 eur cents now.
The most popular was the 2 Zaccaria games, Phoenix and Scramble.
The dedicated cabinets that I remember:Asteroids, Berzerk, Gyruss, Tron, Tutankham, Piranha, Star wars, Vanguard, Hyper Olympics, Space Invaders and a lot of electro mechanical pinballs.I've heard the rumour that all the cabinets was a part of a bartel business between Italy and the hungarian government.A few years later there were more and more pubs and little arcades whre we can play the games like Kangaroo, Zaxxon, Amidar, Roc'n rope, Dig Dug. Moon cresta etc..
I've heard also (the biggest shame in the history of Hungary), that when these machines from the amusement park's arcade sterted to break down and there were no experts to fix them, they smashed all the arcade cabinets and the pinballs, and threw them to dump.
I played a lot in that times with videogames, I had an Atari 2600, commodore 64(still have).
Than the arcade fever started to end in the 90's, everybody played with consoles at home like Nintendo and Playstation.
I missed these games very much, but didn't do anything to get them in the past 20 years.
Than last summer I accidentaly saw a Phoenix for sale in a hungarian auction site and all those beatiful years were came back to me.
I bought that one from a little village near Budapest, it became my first own dedicated cabinet.
To be continued........
Please somebody explain me, how to upload pics here ::)

you can´t upload pictures.
You have to upload them to a photo album/ftp/etc, and link to them..

Welcome Bela. The Zaccaria cabs are beautiful, aren't they? I have a Zaccaria vanguard and a zaccaria scramble. Great games, and the art on the cabs is stunning.

It's nice to hear some arcade stories from Hungary.
