1  General Chat / Galaxian Theater / Re: :: STARBLADE : Operation Blue Planet *prototype* :: on: June 29, 2016, 02:44:31 AM

It seems somewhere along the line, NAMCO used the technology from the prototype to make this Star Wars game. I've played another variation based on fighter jets (can't recall name) and it got me dizzy for 20 minutes afterwards. If this variation of the pod arcade was made, why not go for a Starblade variation? Honestly, I'd jump on Starblade getting dizzy and all over star Wars any day of the week.....

...and here we are :

Enjoy!  Cool

After seeing some footage, my jaw dropped like the very first time I saw Galaxian 3 footage (on youtube years ago). Other than missing sound clips on left side and in game graphics, it seems like the emulation is on the right track. Looks drop dead gorgeous in HD! Can't wait for more!

Wow I was quite tickled that someone out there made a faithful re carnation to Namco's Galaxian 3. Smiley Thanks for sharing this information Toykyle.

Thx for sharing this! I love to see such custom artworks! And yes... more Galaxian3 stuff  Cool

 Space Ace

Why thank you Darthnuno! I did find Dragoon J2 an interesting challenge to draw since Geosword got easier and easier to draw as I neared the completion of the comic.
I would like to show more Galaxian 3 art when another idea comes up.
5  General Chat / Electronic HandHeld Games & Vintage Toys, Home Consoles & Computers / Musings about Atari2600 difficulty switches VS difficulty in modern video games on: January 08, 2014, 04:15:02 PM
Hello Geosword X reporting in .
Happy 2014 New Year!

I recently became a new Atari 2600 owner ( Grin) and pondered about the AI difficulty on the Atari 2600 against the difficulty settings on modern video games.

I learned that the Atari has many modes that cater to every gamer (or those with different learning styles), those who are looking for a challenge, looking for two player/co-op competition or something for the youngsters to have fun with (Defender, Asteroids, just to name a few).

In comparison to modern games those setting exist, but most games I have you have to go through a "learning curve " to figure out how to play the game with ease. Some games I have may give you a quick tutorial then throw you out into the main game and you may not have enough time to learn the new moves or have enough practice to get through the first level (took me a while to get it on Fur Fighters, Knuckles Chaotix and other modern games). There are even some tutorials that repeatedly make you learn a move to get it right when you want to move on (which can be frustrating to the player).

I personally find the Atari to be more open and modern games to be more restrictive to those with different learning styles. On the Atari you have a choice to change to a easier game type and switch to a more challenging set up when you feel ready. In modern games, you either learn as you go or give in after trying so many times.

Now if the Atari has difficultly set ups that can change "on the fly" and variations of games that can cater to different learning styles, how come we switched to tutorials, and "learning curves" in modern games? Is it a way to bring greater challenge to the player despite eliminating the convenience of multiple game variations?  Or have the outlook of modern games changed so drastically that game variations are no longer needed?

What is your insight on this?

6  General Chat / Galaxian Theater / Re: Wonder Eggs - 1992 promotional video ...feature Galaxian≥ on: January 08, 2014, 03:19:40 PM
It's a shame to see it shut down along with galaxian 3. There could be a possibility for the attraction and the 6-player theatre version to come back.

I still fear it may be unlikely since people are playing games in their home rather than going out to the arcades to play. I thought of releasing game on DLC can help bring it back to spotlight or to be reintroduced to a new audience.

The end of the comic? Well anyone could expect a galaxian 3 comic with some characters (pilots that you challenge to unlock another) from the psx of galaxian 3.

Yes, the comic ends here quite frankly. I do not have the PSX Galaxian 3 to draw ideas for another comic. I could come up with ideas for a sequel/aftermath of Attack of Zolgear since I've seen game play footage of that.

I made the comic in reaction to Shifty Look Comics not even making a Starblade comic so, I made my own.

For now some extra artwork:

Basically some general sketches made after the comic was complete.

My one and only Galaxian 3 Attack of Zolgear artwork. A terrible thunder storm rages as Dragoon J2 charges at the Zolgear.

A bit off topic but here's something for the Xevious fans. Smiley (Solvalou is rather fun to draw!)

Stand by for further updates!

Patrol Commander: "Geosword! This is Patrol Commander. You are currently 4 Patrol Hours overtime. What was your patrol location again? Over."

Geosword patrol location towards NGC224. Changed warp point to an unidentified location within NGC224...... Over.

Patrol Commander: "Can you please confirm the unidentified location? Over."

"Ultra Supreme Interstellar Space Station..... Over."

Patrol commander:
"HA HA HA!! Geosword you must be playing around those nebulas way too much!
Return to Home Base for the next sortie and some R&R (rest and relaxation). You pretty much need it! Over.

"And by the way, how did you get damaged like that? You need to stop messing with those asteroids too! Over."

"Was this all just a dream? I swear it felt as if I just went to hell and back!

"And encountering the Commander that I once defeated?

"I have a "gut feeling" that won't be the last time I see him......."

I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Smiley
Please stick around! More art work from Starblade and Galaxian 3 soon to come!  arrow

Thanks for the extra songs. Really cool to hear the songs without loading youtube to listen to them.

Yeah, if only it came with an invisibility mode... Tongue

Welcome aboard my friend!
14  General Chat / Galaxian Theater / Re: Interstellar Dimensions (and other works) on: November 04, 2013, 03:05:47 PM

Geosword: It appears to be safe to come out......

Geosword: According to this information data, this, "Generator",  must be the main power source for this Space station.

As there is no other source to confirm this, it must be destroyed.

"Geosword cleared to engage on power generator."

15  General Chat / Galaxian Theater / Re: Starblade on Namco Arcade app on: November 04, 2013, 02:48:59 PM
Ik right. I mean they had excellent controls on starblade. The rest on other classic games though were a bit hard to control. Anyway I noticed about that excellent starblade comic you got there

I now wonder if they look over the control schemes of some of their games before releasing them on different mediums so they can play well and smooth. If they find the controls are difficult to use then it should be the same for the player who plays it. I do sometimes find it funny, when I hit a snag in playing some games, and wondered if the developers had as much as a difficult time as I did going through control issues or difficult to pass obstacles.

Yes I do thank you for enjoying my comic. Stay tuned for more!
