Title: Amidar
Post by: JG on October 19, 2009, 10:13:21 PM
Yo dudes!

I've found a dedicated Amidar, AND I CAN'T BELIVE MY EYES, THIS IS SOMETHING I WANT, AND I WANT IT BAD!!!! (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=6883) that is not in perfect shape (bad sound etc), It's 500 km away and I'm looking into what a car rental would be for a station wagon, asked price (first out in some kind of bid high, auction thingy) is (blush) €50 - and that (and double and tripple and even more I could pay for a dedicated Amidar).

there are a few other guys intested (that live more close by).

Anyone? what is a good price for and Amidar cab (and, Boy- do I want one, they where all gerneric once when I was small), and how much is to much for 500 km of road trip (and back?)

i drove more than 1400 kilometers :o for a dedicated cab last weekend (the whole story along with roadtrip pics to follow shortly), so 500 km sounds like a piece of cake  ;)

once again: if you want something REALLY BAD (and from what you've writtten, AMIDAR falls into that category), you HAVE TO go for it, no matter how much it costs or how far the trip is!!!

is the cab located in sweden?

Now it's mine  ;D end price approx €70 and there will be a road trip this weekend.

I don't mind paying for the game, I don't mind renting a car, I don't mind driving 1000 kms (there and back).

but where will I put it? the apartment is filled up.. there's some space in the kitchen let's put it there and then I'll move around, after all it's my very own AMIDAR!!!

It's 500 km straight north from me (who is about as down south you can get) here in Sweden. Then It's the same 500 km back  ;)

Hopefully will have some nice pictures for you next sunday. It's a top find, a game I really like and that I used to play as a child. Never seen a dedicated Amidar before, seeing first the game and then the price made my mind up. I'll have to put it in the kitchen to begin with.

Might be able to put a few more arcades in the bedroom if I get a smaller bed in the future

If you can, find anywhere (climate controlled if possible) to store/hide them, untill you have space :D

::: Always ALWAYS :::  Clean them out with an air gun  inside and out to avoid bringing pests, silverfish especially into your game room!

Take lots of roadtrip pics, I'm pretty sure the Swedish country-side looks beautiful !

This could be nice in a way I think, I'm going here: http://www.hitta.se/LargeMap.aspx?var=karlskoga  F**K! looking on that map, it's not 500 km, it's 700 kms up and then back!

Okey, I'll rent the car for 24 hours, and going up and back should be possible in 24 hours... hmmmm

The car have been booked in my name, space in the kitchen have been cleared and cleaned up. (will have to move a sega monitor tomorrow)

I'm all set. More info [watch this space].

I think it could be time for my first  spaceace: :spaceace: (officially happy)

Here is a film the seller made of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VpCj3ax3G8

Looks nice, with a nice clean unburnt monitor, there are 2 nasty damages on one side, where the lower one is the one to be afraid of, and at the end you can hear how the sound is bad and only pulsating instead of playing the sounds/music.

but considering the price of €70 that is nothing to talk about.

I'm so excited, I just can't hide it... *more of that stpuid dance*

Yes, that is the plan, after work tomrrow, go home - clean up some more, and then to bed.

I'll make a small "road trip pack", with a blanket (so that I can store the game in the back with out worries), maybe some lunch (or I might get some mold), pack a camera, and then pack some CDs.

One thing that would have been such a laugh, is from my last Road trip where i picked up my Mr. and Mrs. Pacman, I'd love to have made a picture series of that here, since it was only 20 kms away.

But this time it's the real deal.

I'm so dissapointed the trip-meter in the rental car turned over at 999.9 km. But it was fun coming home, and outside the apartments where a bunch of loud young guys that where getting their bikes to go downtown, I park the car, slide out my game, locks the car and wheel the game indoors. From have beeing very loud they went completly silent and as the door closed I heard a faint voice saying something like "THAT, was pretty cool". Mission accomplished!  ;D

1.229,1 Kms traveled. Have some rather bad pictures in my iPhone that I'll try to show you, but not now, now is bedtime...

Might very well be, the seller informed me that he had picked it up in Bollnäs (http://www.hitta.se/LargeMap.aspx?var=bolln%e4s) some years ago.  :spaceace:

Okey, let's have some pictures. It's kind of disorganized at the moment, I'll post them with a few comments on each and hopefully they'll get in a somewhat decent order compared to what happend.

And since the pictures from my iPhone turned out more or less crappy, I've added a few bonus pictures that I took today, to fill out.. Hope that is OK.

OK, first try to post a picture, this was the route Going north:

and as you may notice, the road is not the shortest one, I made a huge misstake and ended up in Norrköping, that gave me about 100 kms extra on the way up and made everything late.
Title: Re: Amidar
Post by: JG on October 25, 2009, 06:50:38 PM
So let's have one early picture of the trip-meter:

I might be just into retro or just plain stupid but for a GPS I thought it would be enough if I had the sellers details (slightly censored in the picture) and a list of towns to aim for as I went past the highway:

worked out well, headed off, and after 2 hours paid €3.3 for the worst coffee ever: *cough*RIP-OFF*cough*

Someone wanted picture of beautiful Sweden, take this, the weater was BAD, very boring, the first 200 kms covered in wet, wet, wet

kept going north and south of Jönköping, it cleared up

not for long but it was nice for the moment it was dry.

Going out of Jönköping on the left side of vättern (on of the biggest lakes here in Sweden, filled with fish that you can buy smoked in the area, and really - you should it's a delicassy) I took a picture that don't make the area justice. Really should not be in the car and take pictures, it's stunningly beautilfull in the area, the big open lake, the rather steep hills around that look like mountains.

Then I did a short stop in Gränna,

and then again

to make a short stop at the Sweden alcohol selling monopoly (http://www.systembolaget.se) , and to get the cash needed to pay for my Amidar!

It was a very cute small town, this was my first stop there, they are famous for their peppermint rock candy. You should go there, it's not the kind of town that are filled with fun, but if you are going anywhere else in Sweden, it's worth a stop for it's cuteness.

well, on anwards as I turned the wrong way (to be found out later), I stopped for Gas and food,

that was the worst lunch ever! since they had a power loss, they could not heat the lunch, and it was luke warm and not that good to start with.

Another funny thing at that moment was that the petrol station could not serve me since they had no power, hmm.. I stopped here to have some gas - since that was was I was out of! Maybe in Norrköping (and according to the GPS in my iPhone that was way off)..

so, Since not using the GPS in my iPhone I decided to update the GPS I was using

So after a while of being lost and finding my way back I could meet up with the seller, he had this amazing garden,

And I did manage to get the rental car on the wrong side, and almost dive down into the river, so we had a few moments where the seller got his car out, tied us up and draged  me up onto steady ground.

And from there on it was time to head south

(http://www.jorma.se/amidar/GoingSouth.jpg) not by choice, I picked to go home by motorway, to save some time. Turned out that the way down to Göteborg was way slow and small, dark and not at all what you wanted.
Title: Re: Amidar
Post by: JG on October 25, 2009, 08:27:19 PM
Going home the last 300 kms was a joke, it was mostly Night Driver,

at last I got home, very late since going there had been delayed by my de-tour, and looking at the sellers game room etc etc..

so, parked the car and ended up with the final statistics:

and please not to my big dissapoitment that the trip counter in the rental car turned over at 999.9 km, so this is what was left after that.

edit: I am somewhat satisfied that I've managed to keep an average speed of 88 km/h since the top motorway speed in Sweden is 110 km/h and I did a lot of 70 km/h way and rather a few cities where the top speed is 50 km/h. But also the last 3 hours going south from Göteborg, I came to the conclusion that no cops are out tonight, and if they are, most likely they are going to check me for alcohol, none of them will be considered for how fast I'm going. That said, going 30 km/h over allowed speed in Sweden will make you loose your license and you get fined as well, so kept speed for all the time I've kept the speed at the legal limit (if any one ask)....
Title: Re: Amidar

Funny thing, If I'd choosen to go this stretch in one way and not look back.. I've could have done

but with in range I could also have gone for: London, Paris, Zurich, Graz, Budapest, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Warszava or something like that - I must live in the middle of Europe!

So looking at the game at home: (new pictures, not from the trip)

The sideart is lovely:

The Bezel have me wondering if this is some kind of bootleg, it's folded and looks like it should have been made for a "real" cabinet,
(http://www.jorma.se/amidar/Amidar_bezel.JPG)

The cab itself is rather small, and designed to not have a marquee, *strange* I'm not sure what this modell is called but it reminds me of Missile command, etc
(http://www.jorma.se/amidar/Amidar_cab1.JPG)

The cab is rather small, it's about 140 cm's high, it reaches up to my breasts/chest.

from below, it looks like this,
(http://www.jorma.se/amidar/Amidar_cab3.JPG)

The worst damage on the game is on the left side where it's a huge gaping wound:
will try to fix that with some liquid wood or something.

The overlay have me wondering if it's a boot or what? it's a bit odd, it's strange, it's "ugly" and it's marked "Springer" - is that boot or is it licensed?

But on the not being a boot issue is the PCB, that is clearly marked with Konami and "for Japan", or is that just to make it more legal, is it still boot?
There should be diffrencies between Konami and Stern ROMS, but what have I got? - must be investigated!

Easy access with the front opened:

Having a look at the back, when the open access door in the back is opened opens the question, Why did someone make  a special adapter for this game for a deicated machine?

could it be that they had ready-made NSM cabbs, and Amidar was a little different? Is this a strange boot (from a regular Amidar where the bezel is not folded and has a marquee?) or is it just a strange small cabb made in germany from some strange licens?

No matter what, I love this small game that I have in my kitchen, even if it need some more TLC (Tender, Love and Care).

thx for sharing your roadtrip with us, unfortunately no pics of the seller's gameroom and the pickup itself. there were same parts during your story which made me laugh, but the best parts was this:

And I did manage to get the rental car on the wrong side, and almost dive down into the river, so we had a few moments where the seller got his car out, tied us up and draged  me up onto steady ground.

man, imagine you would have "parked" the rental car in the river  i'm happy that nothing happened to you, telling this to us now makes it one of those great roadtrip arcade lifestyle stories!

hmmm, this folded bezel really looks strange. somehow i've got the feeling that this is NOT an original amidar cabinet - or at least this bezel was not made for that kind of cabinet!

Title: Re: Amidar
Post by: JG on October 25, 2009, 09:26:36 PM
Yes,

This is very strange I do not belive it's an original Amidar, the PCB is Konami (made for Japan) but everything else screams bootleg, I don't mind it's still more original than the games I played as a kid, and there are the stern parts with Deutche marks, and no marquee.. all in all it's very semi-booleg to say the least.

I think it's licensed somehow, or maybe it's made to be since the PCB is Konami but the rest of the cab is not..

still worth the trip if you ask me  :spaceace:  :)

OMG, this is by no means a dedicated cab, it's a NSM Löwen Top Game pre-Jamma generic cab (special NSM pinout). The bezel has their logo in the upper right corner, so at least the game could have been licensed.
I have seen those cabs with all kinds of games, though Amidar and Kangaroo where used quite often.
Personally I find them real ugly and I hate them

The CP looks Donkey Kong-ish...

No, most of the time I just want to get the games home. I rarely play or work with them, Just keep them around to fill out space.

But I like to have the games around, then when I get rich I can play with them and fix them up. Now days to much time is spent working. But now and then and a few weeks of vacation makes small things happen.

Still could use more space for games. Will have to force myself to get the gameroom ready.
