Title: in the end... TURBO
Post by: vernimark on January 25, 2014, 04:02:44 AM
yes, after 8 years waiting TURBO has started its renovation process...
I picked up it 8 years ago in germany during my first roadtrip (I paid it 30 euros) and... I don't know... I forgot it in my garage...
Not properly forgotten but it is so big and heavy that every time I preferred to restore something else.
So... I spent last week in my family house 'couse of I was sick and I needed assistance and when I felt better I moved that cab in the Gameroom I have in Milano.
It's time to give new life to this baby, don't you think so?

Having a look I can say gear shift knob is missing and the steering wheel is in bad conditions, I don't know if I can have good relusts with it...
CP is full of cigarettes burns, T-molding has completely gone, dust and rust are everywhere. Next week I go back in Bologna to proceed with EYES (I'm going slow but I'm quite satisfied) and to send to Bela EYES CP repro!!! but tomorrow and after tomorrow  I want to completely disassemble it...
here first pics

Hi Marco,

I think I have a spare gear shift knob from a parted out Monaco GP Pro. From what I see, it's the same wooden knob (I do also have a steering wheel slightly better than yours from that machine, but also far from perfect).

Shameless plug: I am still on the hunt for a Monaco GP cabaret ;)

Wow that looks like a beast ! And it was treated like one too regretfully....

Don't remember seeing one before but it does remind me a lot of Monaco GT ?

Does it use a processor or not ? I like that big-ass speaker !!

No side-arts ?

I really like that steering wheel...totally 70s racing wheel :)

Most of us wouldn't touch that machine I'm sure so whatever you manage to accomplish with it, it will be an impressive effort anyways !

Forza Marco !  ;D

It's the successor to Monaco GP, using the same cabinet as Monaco GP Pro (which is the same game as the standard version, with an added score value for passing a certain number of cars). Afaik, it is not strictly TTL based, but indeed is using a CPU already (it's also emulated by Mame, so it must have some sort of processor).

Thanks, such a great game for it's day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8fdJQ0H-lI&feature=player_embedded#at=122

The graphics we go like "meh" on today, but it's from 1981 !!!!

Wow, lots of work waiting for ya...but I think it's worth it :)

Béla has a controlpanel for the Turbo which he doesn't need. Our Turbo is missing one of the gauges so I think we only need that. You could have the other parts, if this is ok for Béla :)

Looks like it's been in a very moiety surrounding ? The coast ?

I can't remember playing these BITD but it looks like a great game.

That side-art is WEIRD ! You wonder why they would put it all the way down there :)

Also: it has a switcher power supply...must be one of the first games to have one...it doesn't look hacked in at least...
Title: Re: in the end... TURBO
Post by: vernimark on January 26, 2014, 03:48:07 PM
My monaco gp has a switcher ps too, not hacked, so I think sega was one of the first company to adopt this technology for games.

Quarterarcade has a NOS control panel and a new coin door but now i haven 't enough money so i ll try to repair and adapt what i have first...

Post by: nilfisk on January 26, 2014, 07:27:46 PM
Monaco GP indeed is using a switcher for the 5V; the other voltages are generated in a more traditional, "linear" way :)

Wow great. I disassembled all cabinet parts and I need the complete gear shift. As you know my knob is missing but the rest is really rusted.

I have a lot of spare parts for this cab, if you need something please LMK

I've checked our turbo and we only need the gauge on the right side. So if Béla's cp is OK for you, you can have it :)

If you want the NOS, have it shipped to Love's partner, for a small fee it will be added to the container stuff ;)

Wow, shiny, well done. ;)

thank you

about t-molding.
some years ago I went to an old video games renter and I asked for some old parts. He gave me some t-moldings used in those years....
so in the picture you can see the original on the right and the new one on the left...

Title: Re: in the end... TURBO

during the week end I could work on this cab again.

I bought from Quarterarcade the coin door and Bela sent me the gear shift so the cab is complete...

what i did this week end is the control panel re newation. it was full of burns so I had to apply a drastic solution....
Quarterarcade had one NOS but once I asked it they answered me they wasn't able to find it in their warehouse: "I'm sorry someone bought it locally and I forgot to remove it from the online cataloghe..."

here the original CP conditions
Title: Re: in the end... TURBO
Post by: vernimark on March 11, 2014, 02:32:25 PM
First of all, I sanded the area burned, then I filled the holes.
I sanded it again and then I covered everything with resin combined with fiberglass
and... I sanded it again....

next step...
I used a Primer to prepare the surface to the final color.
once the primer was on the surface I use a sponge in order to emulate the original irregular pattern.
once it was dry I sprayed it black.
that's all

(I renewed sear shift know too with a thing I can't translate. It is used to protect parque. wheel has been renewed too, I'll post pictures soon)

actually I dunno, PS has gone for sure. 5V rised up till 7.5. When I disconnected the 5V connector rised up till 16V and then smoked.
I hope boards are save.
Next week more tests
