Amazing Work Dazza ! And welcome to the big family of 'Vectors Men'  ;)

Thanks Bruno!

I can now log into www.localcarcade.com. However, I just cannot load the damn thing, that visual verification is a right pain. I can't work out the letters being displayed half the time and clicking it (like the instructions say) does not load a new one! I originally thought it was not uploading because I was getting the letters wrong, but I got a nice obvious one and it still doesn't work!  >:(

I enter the following details (after logging in of course):

Image file: Select the file "Rolling Thunder - Atari Ireland Marquee.ai" which is 2,092kb and is 1607px x 467px (so within the guidelines)

Thumbnail File: Select the file "Rolling-Thunder-Thumbnail-300x89.jpg" which is 14kb and 300x89 (so within the guidelines)

Image Title : "Rolling Thunder - Marquee - Atari Ireland"

Description : "Adobe Illustrator vector version of the marquee for the Atari Ireland version of the 1986 Namco classic, Rolling Thunder.

The trousers of Albatross and the mask and torso of the enemy have had the half tone colouring emulated."

Keywords : rolling thunder namco atari ireland adobe illustrator

I type in the verification letters and press "Submit". The page simply reloads and blanks out the Image File and Thumbnail File details I entered and says "Select an Image File!". I've tried Firefox and IE and both do the same thing! I give up!

Tried to register, still not received an activation code EMail......  :?

Tried to register again and it says my username and EMail address have already been registered (so it must be in the pipeline). I can only assume the site admin manually check the registration process before issuing an activation code...  ???

I was going to upload this to http://www.localarcade.com.

Zorg....are you an admin on there? If you are, should I put it in "unclean" or straight to "arcade"? Other than the colours I would say it's pretty spot on.

Thought as much.

I have now finished rescaling the document so the artboard is the exactly 567mm x 165mm. I have taken measurements from bits in my marquee and measured them against the corresponding vector and they are pretty damn close (fractions of mms).

The only thing left now is I am unhappy with my colours. I matched all my colours, with painful scrutiny, to the scanned image. However, when I compare those colours to my original marquee they are quite washed out. The red is definitely a deeper red than the scan would indicate.

The problem is I can't take the colours from my marquee as the light behind it has discoloured it quite substantially. I could probably get the red and yellow from the far edges as they were hidden behind metal and do not seem to have been affected. Hmmmm, what to do.......?!?! Damn my perfectionism!

Yes, the marquee will available once fully completed.

I have been rescaling the marquee to ensure the actual document dimensions are 1:1. My previous work was based on the original scans which when imported were about 10 times larger than the real size and the aspect ratios were wrong. This then caused the problem that when I resized my original work the horizontal aspect was too small, which meant all my vectors were slightly wrong (squashed horizontally). Hindsight is a great thing, if I had got the scale right in the first place I would have saved myself ALOT of hassle, so I've been remedying this.

Now I just have the half tone on his trousers to finish and then I shall be printing the half tone parts 1:1 scale to ensure I get a good colour match. I now have my arcade machine along with it's cracked / broken marquee so can get a much better idea of the actual colours.

I assume the half tone colours are always made up of existing colours used in the image? So the enemy mask would be made of the yellow and red used elsewhere.

I may try taking a macro picture of those half tone image parts so I can get the exact diameter of the dots used. We shall see how well that works out  ;D

Had a play and got the following. It's zoomed in to get a full appreciation of the dots. When viewed at 1:1 the colours are a pretty good match. It's difficult to get the dots the correct size without screwing up the colour badly

Don't know which I prefer, the flat colours or the half tones.....hmmmmm ??? ??? ??? Still at least I now have a really good understanding of clipping masks...

So do you create a swatch and fill using the swatch? Or do you manual create a repeating dot pattern on a sqare object and only show it through a mask?

He 'pretend' to be official World Record man ... on Rolling Thunder (sorry Dazza  Roll Eyes)... So before submitting his hi score to Twin Galaxies, he has to prove us if he is the real King Of Thunder  (sorry Dazza... bis  Roll Eyes)  arrow
