Excellent, how do you do that? Is that done in Adobe Illustrator? I had a play but just couldn't get the right effect.

Thanks!

The only thing I didn't manage to do was the halftone colouring on Albatross's trousers and the enemy's hood and torso. May have a go at that tonight, but to tell you the truth I'm quite happy with the flat colour result.

Onto the final vectorisation steps....

1. Trace the enemy's outline. I'm getting more skilled at the process so this takes nowhere near the time it did when originally tracing albatross

2. Lets give the enemy his earie mask and cape

3. Add his torso and legs

4. Adding the gloves and boots to the enemy the marquee is COMPLETED!!!  :spaceace: :spaceace:

The long learning curve and painstaking tracing and colour matching is over! Now where do I put the vectorised file so other people can gain access to it.....

I'm very pleased with how its turning out. Click the link and select "All Sizes" the select "Large" to get a better view of the images)

1. Added our hero's jumper, hands and gun belt straps

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3157433891/

2. Lets give out hero some trousers a belt and add some highlights to his shoes

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3158265376/

3. Finishing Albatross we have to give him his most important item....A GUN!!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3157434141/

4. Lets finish the main lettering, by adding the blue layer

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3158265720/

5. Final touch to the main letter, the purple layer. Bruno's scan was ever so slightly off straight so I also went back and made sure all letters are perfectly in line (use the illustrator rulers)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3158265928/

6. What Marquee would be complete without the Atari logo

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3157434643/

So "only" the enemy on the right hand side to do......

Hehe, sorry Dexter but I redid the join from the original PNG files to get a higher resolution image to trace from. The one on flickr is a scaled down version of the new one.

I'll stick a credit on there for you as you were instrumental in my decisions to have a go my self and which tools to use  ;D

Time for an update.... Let me upload some pictures of my progress

Right click on the 'medium' picture and you've got the right url picture.

Excellent, I was looking for the actual file URL for ages, obviously didn't look hard enough

Made good further progress, now I have master bezier curves I've redone Albatross's outline so it's nice and smooth now. Also found out how to cut out custom shapes and colour them in so can do Albatross on a single layer now  ;D

Will get some more screen shots when I have reached a good progress point.

Well I'm loving this vector conversion work!

Progress so far.

1. Trace the black background of the main letters

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140258227/

2. Trace the bullet path and attempt to get some color matches

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140261695/

3. Trace our hero Albatross's black outline (takes a long time )

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140263611/

4. Add some color - The red and yellow background

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3140266063/

5. Lets give Albatross some features - Hair and a face

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalsy/3141096704/

So thats the progress so far! I did have all his hands and gun done but Adobe Illustrator decided to crash on me before I had saved (is there an auto backup?!?!?!?). I have found getting the right colours is the most difficult bit!

I'm not sure how I'm going to do Albatross's trousers and the Enemy's hood and top. They are a dotted colour (can be seen if you zoom in).

Bruno is there any way to upload the pictures rather than post links?

Cheers

Thought I'd have a crack at doing a vector of this    Not doing too bad if I do say so myself.

How do I upload images so I can show work in progress?

For all the vector experts...I'm using Adobe Illustrator, which seems less functional than PhotoShop, but anyway... What is the best way of getting the colours from the scan? Even in PhotoShop colour picker (which you can select colours from the image which you can't do in Illustrator) depending in where I click yields massively different colours.

Hehe, it was long time playing to get that world record, months, playing every night.

Well I'm pleased to say I got my own Rolling Thunder machine TODAY!  8) 8) 8) The board is faulty so I need to get that sorted. Overall it's a lovely cabinet, the side art is in amazing condition but has a repro CPO. The marquee is also a repro but we already know that story  :P

It's the first step in the right direction to get the world record on the arcade format!

I got a few pictures of the road trip so once I get them loaded onto the PC I'll start a thread to show you ;D

I found Twin Galaxies to be helpful too. Mr Kelly R. Flewin dealt with my submission and I even got a WR news entry in the forums after my submissions was verified:

http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12867

I originally sent an EMail to them regarding a glitch in Rolling Thunder and whether it was allowed to be used. Absolutely no response . I then posted a new topic in their forums and got an official response the same day!  8)

So my advice is use the forums!
