#Roadtrip in UK# Quest for Dragon's Lair II & Star Wars
« on: December 27, 2005, 11:47:59 PM »
Yeah Baby Yeah.

I Love Christmas  :P  This year, Santa brings to me :

A Dragon's Lair II & a Star Wars cockpit game  :P  :P  :P

Well, of course I've to pick them up... in UK   Remember, I'm living in South Belgium... so here's the 'giant' Road Trip  8)  8)  8)

Ok, go back to Sunday the 25th of December...

Here's the small truck I rented :

It should be big enough to carry these 2 games :

This time I'll prepare all the stuff needed to fix the games during the travel :

OK, a last check up before the D-Day  :o

Set the clock for tomorrow morning : 04h45am   8)

Monday, the 26th of December

6:00 am... we start this road trip.

Thanks to Burt for coming with us on this adventure, you rock man  :D

As we're staring from South Belgium, we have to cross all the country, and entering in France to catch the EuroTunnel

... arriving at the Eurotunnel entrance...

... getting 'le shuttle' is very easy in fact, and not expensive at all   :)

... just follow the orders...  8)  8)  8)

Inside the Shuttle :

Oh, by the way... do you know I'm a Dragon's Lair Fan    :D  8)

OK, the travel will get about 35 minutes, so while this time we check again & again the correct route to get

40 minutes later... we are now... in UK  8)

Only I thing to remain : do drive on the left hand side  8)  8)  8)

... to continue ...

I am green with envy.... I am really. I will be getting my own DL, DL2 and Space Ace cabs and if I am lucky the Star Wars Cockpit cab. I also want these cabs and I will have them someday soon. When I move into a larger place ;)

Awesome post man I am looking forward to reading more about your road trip. And seeing some screenies of your new toys ;)

Take care.

OK, here's the second part  8)  ...

Still driving on the England motor way  8)

Arriving at location...

A big thanks to Oliver -the seller- and his family for the hospitality. We really appreciate.

Ok, so I'm entering 'The Lair' :

Woow so many beautifull arcade games ... WoW ... The best collection I ever seen with my own eyes

OK, let's chech the first baby to bring back in Belgium...

...a Star Wars Cockpit  :P

A lot of work to restore it because the game is empty :

- no pcb
- no xy monitor
- no alimentation
- a small crack on the roof
- some scratch on the cab

...but that game deserves to be played again    :P  :P  :P  :P

Ok, let's bring it back  to the truck...

The truck is big, but the arcades games too... near 2 meters for the cockpit   :?

...getting mesures...

Ok, the best thing to do is to bring back the second game, and see how to place the games in the truck...

...yes, it's a Dragon's Lair II :P  :P  :P  :P

in a very nice condition  :)

Now, the two games can be loaded... but how to place them
   :?:

...first, the Star Wars cockpit...

Arggg, the Dragon's Lair II is too high  :?

... well, let's try an other fitting...

Hopefully, Oliver is a strong man, and he's able to load/unloaded very easily    Very impressive  :)
We are playing TETRIS, searching the right combinaison  :?

OK, we got it... at least

... it should be fine like that ...

Still some 'goodies" to load  : 19" Hantarex monitors, Dragon's Lair II pcb *spare*, Philips video disc *spare*

... Time to pay these new toys    8)  8)  8)

Thanks again to you Oliver, for your gentiless and your family hospitality  :)
It's a please to meet a true arcade addict like you...  :D
I hope to meet you back very soon

Ok, it's time to leave because we did not eat yet... nothing at all :-(

SO, a small break...

... on the road again ... near London... traffic jam

...arriving the shuttle, and the english toll...

Two customs offices arrive...

Cool, they both recognize the games :D

The first one said : "WOoww Dragon's Lair"
The other said : " The Star Game, I used to play it when I was young... there is a long time ago"  :D

They were very nice, and they asked me a lot ot personal questions such "Cool, how many games tdo you have, How does it work, ... "

I ask them : "Do you often see guys like me, bringing back arcade games oversea... ?"
They say "No, It's the first time we see that "

So we get the shuttle without any probem  8)

Arriving in Belgium... still 400 km to drive  :?

... 3 hours l8ter...

... it's getting cold (-4° C )  & late  :?

... and now the snow  :?  :?  :?  :?  ..and no snow tires  :?  :?  :?  :?

Hopefully, the snow was only present on the end of this road trip...

we arrive at my place at 00:00 am ... but it's not finished yet...

..we have to unload the toys

First, the beautifull Dragon's Lair II  :P

Then the all famous Star Wars cockpit ... now I really deserve the name 'DARTH' Nuno
 :D

That's it  :D

Time to bring back my friend Burt at home ( Thanks for you help Burt, has usual                  ), clean up the rental truck... it's 01:30am   ... we are a *little bit* tired

This is the biggest roadtrip I ever made

- 1300 km on the ground
- 100 km under the sea ( EuroTunnel ) ...
- 4 country : Luxembourg ( where I rent the truck ) -> Belgium -> France -> England

Et voila...

No work to do on The Dragon's Lair II, because it's working perfectly :-)

I'll start the Star Wars restoration soon...

Stay around for more pictures  8)  8)  8)

Hah, those were the days that Oll & co were raiding warehouses all over The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany !

I started in this hobby too late ;)

Wow that huge red monster of a game is Nintendo's Battle Shark !!! From 1978 and uses 16mm film. I played it a lot back in my youth.

Oll says the Nintendo Battle Shark stayed behind in Germany. This might be where it ended up:

There's pictures of it on the 2nd page.

Yeah, I came in this hobby too late too.
Oll even has my EDOT, the cab I used to play at the Belgian seashore when I was a kid.
I should have carved my initials in the side art back then. ;D

Thanks for the pictures of the SW storage. :spaceace:
