Space Duel - upper screen displayed in one line

Hey,

 just got my space duel and it worked for few moments without flaws. But then the upper screen half broke down in one line.

Checked the connectors, seems ok. Checked voltage on Game PCB = 5.0V, check voltage before connector 5.15V

Did some measures on transistors, seemed ok. But I lack on a good approach. Where to start? Any recommend reading?

Then read it again, then you sleep one night and read it one more time. Now you are ready for the next step

My guess: cracks in the soldering islands around the connectors that go to the deflection transistors. Redo ALL the solderings of ALL connectors. Even then it is still possible the cracks are in the PCB tracks, right after the islands. Ask me how I know this.....
Even when you completely redo the soldering it will still show the same problem. Also check the deflection transistor holders and the wires running to them.

I'be written about it here before...try some searching. 6100's are a PITA and were a great part of the demise of vector games IMHO. Very incorrectly these problems were blamed because it was vector monitors, but rasters with a poor set-up like the 6100 would have failed just as often....

Thanks, andre  i took the deflecttion pcb, measured all parts and everything was fine. On the bottom some solder points was bad and even loose. Resoldered all connectors and the game wored again like a charm. candidate for eucade I guess

last weekend I got my horse trailer. So what to do with a horse trailer? Of course, transporting Cabs It came just in time since I was ordering a space duel from US.



This is spedition ramp I had to fetch my "package". Didn`t know that I had to wait about an hour. But it was ok.

My gf was helping me. I never will forget her face when I was carrying the cab to the trailers with the help of one spedition workers. Thanks a lot!




Since I`m having laminate floor I`m protecting it by using adhensive protective foil.

The sounds and the bass is awesome. This is pic from the bak. Left hand side is the PCB. This cab has 4 speakers.

The Cab comes from US so it has US plugs. Luckily I had a brown PSU adapter from my Atari Pole Position Sitdown left I can use here! Question left is how to handle the marquee lighting.



Turned the cab on and after 10 sec the Y deflection broke down.

So, how much did you have to pay in total for the shipping ?

350USD for shipping
240€ for harbor fees incl. custom tax

--> 840€

The risk of getting scrap is of course free For me it was fine since the cab comes exactly in the condition described. Since the cab arrived in Bremen I could save some money getting the cab myself.

great price for a space duel - well done, jochen. you "northern guys" have the advantage of having a port right at your doorstep, there's nothing like a port in sight "down here", but at least we have hills and mountains
