All the rest / My first modem
« on: September 25, 2015, 12:19:07 AM »
Waha...now for sale on Marktplaats.....this is exactly the same first modem I ever had. No idea how I got it though...

There was no autodialing, na AT command set, had to dial with the phone and then switch over to the modem...I don't think I ever used it with my Atari 8 bits...mostly with the ST.

No there was no internet, you dialed into (local) BBSes :)

Basically it was a 300 baud modem BUT...it had a "viditel" mode which allowed 1200bd download/75bd upload....wooohooo, that was LIGHTNING fast, especially because downloading was the thing you did most :D

Arcade Lifestyle / Sega Monaco GP cocktail....what a strange beast :)
« on: September 14, 2015, 07:58:12 PM »
To do list:
- replace both fans
- restore feet
- check/replace monitor caps
- check CRT with rejuvenator
- buy wooden shifter knob
- repro shifter knob graphics plate
- fix game board issues (car jittery, shadows on some texts)
- fix not working hi score table
- repaint steering wheel
- repaint gas pedal and box
- restore dial graphics plate
- repaint monitor hood
- replace (remove ?) plexi over CRT
- fix sound issue: "fanfare" music can be heard pemenantly even in attract mode
- probably much more as I go along....

So......I visited Vernimark's very nice arcade/BBQ party near Milano Italy last summer.

The temps were crazy but it was a lot of fun. The bad thing about those kind of parties is that you get to see and play games you fall completely in love with....(See Arch's Mario Bros. WTB thread).

So.....half seriously, and expecting absolutely nothing, I posted a WTB on this great forum and ......who would have guessed I would actually find one that way....let alone from one of the nicest guys in this hobby !!!

He even delivered the machine to Eurocade and it was already very much working, surprisingly.
(By the way, I offered to cancel the deal when I learned that the machine was so close to working, I could imagine Capt.Kirk was pretty surprised it was in that good condition, but he said no problem.... :spaceace:)

Now, I expected this machine to stand in the "middle room" of the building because it wasn't playable because of the missing player's car....

However, something what I would like to call "Eurocade Magic" happened.
First, Jochen had brought some board sets and started swapping out some boards and hey, we have the player's car back. OK it was a bit jittery and rather low on the screen but it was fur sure nice and playable now !

Next....the credit button needed to be added because this game has no free play option of course.
So Etienne and Robin fiddled around and tried to get it working but it turned out it needed a switchover contact.

So....the "little sewing machine" was just standing there in attract mode during the day, pretty but kind of lonely.

At one point Etienne apparently had one of his typical McGyver moments....he tried something probably few of us would have thought about and that was keeping the credit button pushed and then the game would play !

So....again there was some fiddling and bam, the game could now be credited by pressing the coin-reject button and Etienne seemed pretty much hooked right away :):)

At the end of Eurocade some more magic.....Jochen offered to let this board stay in the machine until I got it fixed a bit more...or until he had a good set up to work on those boards......

I just love this community sense....you guys all are the best !

Anyway, some pics stolen from Etienne:

Hah, after the brilliant Asteroids emulator for Atari 8 bit computers (http://members.aon.at/nkehrer/ast800xl.html)  the same guy now also released Sprint 1 emulated:

http://members.aon.at/nkehrer/

Note that both Asteroids and Sprint 1 run NATIVELY on the Atari 800, the only thing emulated is the graphics and sounds !!!

Does anybody know or have bought from this eBay seller:

Joefr74

http://www.ebay.fr/usr/joefr74?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

I bought an Asteroids board from him and paid immediately when he accepted my offer.

Next I waited for several days without any "shipped" message so I sent him a message through eBay when he was going to ship.
He posted on august 27 that it would be shipped that evening but the status on eBay of the tracking number is still "Shipment information received". It never went to "in transit".

It is now september 7 and still nothing....this is from France people....should be here within a day 2/3....maybe 4.

Also, when I enter the tracking number on www.laposte.fr the number is unknown (at least, as far as I understand the French.

'EUROCADE 2O15' / The big "I must bring this to Eurocade 2015" list...
« on: September 06, 2015, 12:10:11 AM »
Yes, it's that time of year again.....a shortlist of stuff you have to remind yourself (and others) of stuff to bring to Eurocade....

SO here I go:

V - Switching PSU -> Laszo
V - Galaxian CPO -> Laszo
- Asterock docs (If I find them in time) -> Laszo
V - Atari Logo Joystick -> PRC -> Wurstkopp
V - Asteroids Control Panel -> PRC -> Jochen
V - Asteroids marquee -> CKONG
V - WG6100, the first one that beat me  :twisted: -> Chris -> Franck
V - Dutch Atari 8bit cassette tapes -> Chris -> Franck
V - DIP heat-sinks plus heatsink glue -> Anunaki

I'm sure this list is not complete yet....please let me know if I forgot something....

(P.S. I'm coming back about the Asteroids stuff ASAP....sorry about the delay on this.....)

Technical Area / When the last CRT dies....
« on: August 13, 2015, 07:04:58 PM »
....we will stick this on the tube, include software tricks to get it to look as much as possible like a CRT and continue to enjoy our games.

But for now.....it looks like my CRTs still have decades to go :):)

For my new Asteroids I'm looking for 1, maybe two silver cones for P1/P2 buttons.

I already have the buttons themselves so only need the silver looking cone(s).

Can trade for black comes if needed.

43
Seriously:

Selling off some Asteroids stuff people:

1) Asteroids shell. Mostly empty. Needs a good home and TLC. Has a white kick board for some reason, but we all know how little ugly ducklings can become beautiful swans ! :D There's a silvery coin door in there...Irish cab I guess. SOLD !

2) Asteroids marquee. I'd give it a 9.5/10 "SOLD"

3) Asteroids Control Panel. With original-show-the-wear-and-use (™) rust and wear :D In other words needs sanding, priming, painting and a new CPO which....... "SOLD"

4) I also have on offer :) A brand NIB/NOS (wait no it's a repro) Asteroids CPO ! Full size of course so it covers the entire panel (not one of those flimsy looking top-side only one) SOLD

5) A brand new "NIB" repro cardboard bezel. You know those funky planets and stuff...nice :) [SOLD]

6) Asteroids harness. Untested and I'm not sure it is 100% complete.....
You know these strings of wires with all those funky colors, excellent decoration for your gameroom or let your girlfriend wear it as a boa....
SOLD

7) ....and this one is a MAYBE: plexi bezel "NIB" repro. This depends on one thing: can I find/get the scanned artwork for the Italian Asteroids plexi bezel....I know at least one to exist in a town near Milano :D SOLD

Now.....there may be more Asteroids related stuff. I have a PCB but I'm not sure if it still works....I know it did work, many moons ago. Could give it a try in my Lunar Lander ....

All this stuff can for go for friends' prices....and this hugely depends if you can pick it up at Eurocade or not, because I need to get this stuff out quickly :D

Now if you're really serious I "MIGHT" have a B/W vector monitor to go with this and I "MIGHT" have a power brick to go with this, but that's only for someone who will take all this stuff in one go and price of vector monitors....well you know what I mean :)

OK let's hear it guys :)

I have a weird relationship with this game.....they never seem to stay.......there always seems to be a bigger better fish.....

1) Meteor by Hoei -> Now living happily in a Museum in Denmark
2) Asterock by Sidam -> Now in good hands on the east side of the country....hope it has returned to working condition already...
3) Asteroids project shell with loads of parts.....still waiting for a big restorations/assembly....
4) .......................mmmmmm, what do we get when we mix some of the above ingredients...........

Does anyone have one of these or know something about them ?

http://www.flyback.com/products/index.php?command=viewProduct&id=8620

Would it be any good for the older fly-backs like on the B/W vectors ?
