Hi!

How's it going? I've ben busy here... restoring a Nintendo Space Firebird Cocktail (pics of the restoration to follow). I have complete polished, painted, re-veneered, fixed a vertical collapse, recapped the monitor, had the pcb professionally repaired... nearly finished... NEARLY!

I have a couple issues that I would like to fix that would make this an absolute mint restoration.

The first issue I would like to try and fix is that I cannot centre the image on the screen and seem to have the image roll over on the left side of the sceen (see pics below). Does anyone know how to resolve this or had similar experience in this?

Here's a video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/osz7djhk3szk7sz/20130801_162558.mp4

The second issue is that sometimes the board does not boot. I know when the game works that there is some sound on start up. Occasionally, there is nothing. I know power is getting to the monitor. COuld this be a loose coneection to the gameboard? The voltages seem correct. As this does not happen all the time could it be a PSU problem? Should I recap the PSU?

Any help to these problems would make my day. With your help this will soon be my first ever (sucessful) restoration.

Thanks in advance,

Si

Hi chaps.

I'm planning on coming over either on the Friday or early Saturday morning (flying from Edinburgh) and staying until the Sunday. Is anyone coming from the airport on eitehr day so that I could possibly arrange a lift please? If not, is the public transport good... and how easy would the trip be? Sorry for the questions... needing to figure out some plans first.  :)

Will be wearing a kilt for sure!

All the best!

Hi Blanka,

Can I ask what the status of your book is? Did you get the funding to continue?

All the best,

Si

Hello chaps. Been a while... too much work at the moment and not enough time on my cabs.

Thanks for all your advice. I've managed to get a picture now. See the before and after pics. :)

I'm happy... this is my first major electronics fix for me. Woohoo! I fixed a collapse! I know this is is a minor thing. Anyway, what this has shown is there is a lot of bleed and I cannot centre the picture. There is no white either.  :( I think there is a graphic problem where the stars show on the screen at start up then move to either side of the display when playing. Sounds work.

I'm thinking a cap kit for the monitor to fix the bleed (ordered from Bob Roberts). Is it a voltage problem?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That's great.  Congratulations.

Can I ask if it is possible to create both horizontal and vertical lines at the same time?

Technical Area / Phillips CM3388 MK2 Monitor
« on: June 04, 2013, 10:33:47 PM »
Hi,

I recently got a Phillips M3388 MK2 Monitor to be used as a test monitor. I understand that I need to create a cable that will allow the jamma video output to connect to the 9-pin rgb d-sub input of the monitor. Has anyone done this, and does anyone have a good wiring diagram please?

Many thanks,

Si

I have 5 boards in the G80. Some are loose like you mention. The problem I see is that all 5 boards connect to a masterboard. I'll need to replace these connectors. I can swap boards around. I think there are 7 or 8 slots.  Maybe I can rearrange the boards and see if that makes any difference? The boards do not have an order.

Thanks again for your advice.

Hi Etienne,

Just reseated the eeproms... a little graphic difference, but nothing major. The voltages across 9 and 10 are still the around 4.48 and 4.64V

Also, I noticed that the schematics show that the bottom row of eeproms should have only one chip in them (to the far right). On my board I also have 3 to the left 904-6. Is this normal?

I will check continuity as well.

Thanks.
