All the rest / How do you pay the bills?

Strange question: what do you guys do for a living?

Of course, you don't have to answer, but it seems that, in terms of Arcade Lifestyle, I don't have even close to the time or the skills that you all seem to have. I was wondering if maybe your occupations have something to do with that.

I'm a lawyer. Long, long, long hours. It's 3 am and I'm in a taxi heading home from work. Hopefully I'll be able to spend some time over the weekend to work on my DK cab plans, but we'll see.

Okay, this is probably a frustrating question for many of you scratch build masters. But the truth is, many of us beginners don't have any idea where to begin. We drool over your projects, but ignorance prevents us from ever attempting our own.

So, with that said, on behalf of all the beginners out there, what do I need to build a Donkey Kong cabinet from scratch?

To be clear, what I'm asking here is, what screwdrivers, mallets, power tools (saws), nails, screws, hinges, clamps, levels, glue, wires, paint, varnish, sandpaper, brushes, artwork, wood (MDF), wires, multimeters, lamps, monitors*, chips,** etc. are needed for this project?

Again, in case there was any doubt, I'm talking about starting this project from absolute zero! I plan on making huge mistakes and wasting a lot of money so other beginners don't have to! ;D

And before everyone gets mad at me, after reading the posts here, and on KLOV, and BYOAC, I think that I know a lot of the answers to the above. But as I said in me "hello" post, because my goal is to draft the ultimate beginners guide, I want to use one thread to get a consensus on what's needed.

I look forward from hearing back from all of you!!!

(* with regard to monitor choice, I plan on using a lightweight LCD for safety and simplicity reasons for now.)
(** With regard to chips, again for simplicity's sake, I think I will Mame for now.)

I'm happy to be a new member of this great community! I've been inspired by your marvelous work. And honestly, as a complete beginner, very intimidated!

So, to help others like me out there, my goal as a member is as follows:

* Build from scratch a Donkey Kong replica cabinet
* Make a ton of mistakes along the way
* Document the process in a step-by-step "how to" PDF for others like me
* Humbly beg for your kind assistance!

To that end, I'll be making my first post in the Arcade Lifestyle shortly. I've always wanted to have my own Donkey Kong cabinet, and I've always wanted to be able to do woodwork. This is my chance to kill two birds with one stone.

I should also mention that I'm an American living in Tokyo and I speak Japanese. So if there's anyone who needs anything from Japan, I'd be more than happy help you get it!  (I should note that, surprisingly, classic arcade cabinets are non-existent in Japan.)
