Has anybody already seen this! A virtual reality arcade!

Developer Digital Cybercherries has just released NewRetroArcade, a brilliantly detailed 80’s arcade that’s built in Unreal Engine 4. Inside, players are taken on a nostalgia trip, able to play any one of many working arcade machines representing classic titles.
You can download it here for free i've you have a oculus rift

I tried it when it came out (no OR required btw) and it´s well done. If you have Gameboy Color ROMs you can put them into the ROMs folder of this application and play the games on the cabs there. Sadly this doesn´t work with MAME ROMs.

Wow, i love it !
Just downloaded it, and gave it a try, man it looks cool and i am not even using a VR setup, i would love to see how this is with a VR setup !

Nice, it needs Mame though, else it has no additional value for me compared to the 3D arcade room that I already did use 13 years ago when I built my first Mame cab (http://www.mameworld.info/3darcade/index.html) That one was awesome, it enabled me to design my own 3D arcade, complete with jukebox, arcade machines, pool, etc., walked around in it, and choose the game that I wanted to play. You could even show the gameplay on the cab screens, but then you needed a powerful PC. Unfortunately development, by a dutch guy by the way, stopped years ago.

I was speaking to the lead developer two weeks' ago and he said the whole thing was really an exercise in getting used to the Unreal 4 engine and Oculus Rift. He is pleased with the outcome and says that it has opened new doors for him regarding future projects.

nice, going to try this tomorrow with the Oculus.

You have one Pieter ?
-
No, but we have one at work..
-
Same here, I will give it a try too but not for too long because I always get seasick when I put on the Oculus for more than a few minutes.
-
All I ever find on the net is the developper kit.....is there a consumer OR out meanwhile? ???
-
Not yet, you will have to wait till Q1 2016.
@Chris: did you try the different lenses and adjusting them? fist time i tried it i also got sick, but now it goes a lot better..

Is there a possibility to have a Oculus Rift Demo-Setup running at Eurocade 15?
Never had the chance to get a grip on one.....
Ok, not really retro, but...... ;)
-
I heard that the Oculus is already overhauled by something better.....was it on the Arcadeoutsiders podcast ?
-
The Digital Cybercherries guy said that the VR headsets (Oculus, Sony, Samsung, and one other I've forgotten) are all at similar stages in development, experimenting with lenses and motion sickness reduction.

...and motion sickness reduction.
Why? Throwing up while watching a rollercoaster sim is a natural thing for some people ;D :P ;)

I had a 3D goggle thing YEARS ago for the PC....I actually played Unreal with it (or Quake ?) and I thought it was awesome although yes in the beginning it got me a little disoriented. But it worked a lot better than the crappy arcade game that was run with an Amiga that I played in London...which was the first 3D "game" with goggles that I ever "played".
