I know, I know, there are a lot of "how to discharge a monitor manuals" to be found on the net, but either they include using pretty expensive tools (high voltage probe) or they seem to be pretty dangerous (simply stick a screwdriver under the anode).
What I'd be interested in: how do you guys discharge your monitors, what kind of tools are you using, how save is your procedure? On the forum here I've seen some cool looking handmade discharge tools and I'd be interested to learn from the masters ;)
So keep the posts coming, will you?

I always use a screwdriver for discharging tv's/monitors. Put a crocodile clip with a thick wire on the screwdriver and tape it securely so it can't snap off. The other end clips to the chassis, no tape used here. I always wear a rubber glove and put my free hand behind my back, so you can't grab anything when something should go wrong. After I discharge a tv I always wait a few minutes and then try again to be certain it's discharged. Don't worry if you follow these guidelines you should be safe. I learned it this way at school in electronics class.

Here's my 'custom made' tool for that ;D

...next time I'll work with on a TV / monitor, I'll take a video in order to show how I use it ;)

@bruno: this looks classy. ever thought about going into mass production? ;)

@bruno: so you simply attached a screwdriver to a wooden rod and fixed a wire to the same screwdriver. and then i guess you do it like petieken: attach the wire to the metal frame, wear rubber gloves and discharge the monitor with the rod, right? damn, i'm still afraid of doing it this way.
a video demonstration would be great ...

that's great, thanks a lot. do the anode caps always come off that hard, the guy in the video seems to have problems removing it!
