Title: painting my Zaccaria
Post by: Rory on May 18, 2014, 07:27:29 PM
I'm getting close to painting the front of my Scramble, I have a paint match or as near to the original as possible. It's called Cocoa blush1 by dulux. My question is, what's the best way to paint it...roller? Also, would I need it made up in a gloss paint? This is for the front of the cab.
Thanks in advance,
Rory  :)

I think they used a clear coat as finish, its very high gloss

perhaps some "Glitsa"  ?

I think the mixed the layer with a high gloss clear. I would not use glitsa because it is not high gloss enough... In my book.

Spraypainting is best otherwise a high quality very fine round brush. A roller give waves or a orange skin.

First try it out on a peace of wood.

Good luck

Thanks dudes  :)

I hadn't even thought about the clear layer. I may need to get some plywood and test like you said. Would a clear varnish afterwards offer the same effect? Also, how would you apply the undercoat? Can that be rolled and sanded or would you use a brush?

Finally, is this the kind of brush you mean? Link has decided to go to the top of the page  :)

Thanks,
Rory

I would use a " more expensive" non synthetic brush. No undercoat or primer was used on these cabinets. I will try to look in more detail at it next time I ' m near my zacc.

Maybe its the paint I use or the roller or the technique but I often get wobbling, orange skin, little air bubbles or a combination.   :'( :'(

Any group comments on that?

I prefer rolling, but I don't have a Zaccaria cab.I use small foam rollers.
So far I only had to do black insides of the monitor area and the back of my Ms.Pac. Looks nice IMHO although I didn't study it up into minute detail. After all it's "just" the back ;) O wait I also did the Galaxian insides on the top (not the top itself)....

Anyway, all these areas not too critical.

I still have the DK red challenge in front of me (stirred and turned over the pot again....this paint is getting old  ::) )
Getting that as smooth as the original is going to be close to impossible I guess.

Surprised to learn the Zaccs didnt have a primer coat ? Even if that is so, I would personally still do it, it makes it a lot easier to get a nice even coat, you won't need as much final paint and the paint will bond much better. Just MHO of course.

The zacc I have has this brown semi transparant brown on it.

For the red I would just bring it to a furniture painter and get it spray painted. I think the can do it at a good price and the result will great.

I currently have the painter in my new house and he is going to spray all the doors and posts of my new house just in the work. I will let you know how it turns out.

I thought I'd ask again, does anyone know or have they painted a Zacc cab and used a transparent gloss or varnish to finish off? I have a colour match and just considering an undercoat and then a few layers of the new paint and leaving the clear finish.

I start painting tomorrow, this project has been massively delayed. I've decided not to use a clear layer, I'm using an undercoat and the colour matched paint. I had it matched from a piece of the old cpo.
