....and I thought I knew all Nintendo arcade games by now.....
Looks like a cool Breakout clone:

-
never heard of it, looks pretty cool indeed, the control panel looks like the ones they use on their cocktails.
-
There actually also was a cocktail:
The game was only released in Japan so finding one is close to impossible, if any already survived....
-
I think the cab is cute
-
There was a PCB + cocktail panels on Yahoo! Japan auctions 3 or so years ago - sold for around $750USD as I recall.
-
I can only imagine what a full working upright would be worth....prices have risen quite a bit since then....
Some cool info here, it surely is not a direct clone of Breakout, in fact, you can never completely "erase" the money as tiles return after some time...

Hit one of the monkey's eyes and it would close, scoring extra points. After some time the eye would open again. If you managed to get both closed at he same time, you would score extra points
Move the arrows labbled '1', '2' and '3' up, to open the monkey's mouth. Now you can start hitting his teeth (ouch)
Touch his nose and the ball speeds up
Avoid the little monkey heads dropping down, as they will bounce the ball back before it can hit any of the blocks
Monkey Magic does not have multiple screens or stages. Blocks that have disappeared reappear again after some time. It is all about racking up the highest score. The game becomes gradually more difficult, as the ball speeds up and the number of small monkey heads dropping down increases.

This is a awesome game
And could possibly be just a rom swap on a space fever pcb
I would love to own this game
-
Yes I agree, this looks pretty damn cool for its time, definitely not just a stupid clone....
-
sorry to rebump an old topic, what cabinet is this.. did Nintendo use it for any other games?
-
Well the actual cabinet yes
But inside the control panel is different
But most early cocktails left spaces on the inside of the buttons for over games
In other words they used the same CPo but just covered the spaces the didn't need .
I think this game only had a jap release
-
Borrowed from UKvAC:
Today I got tweeted by a Japanese collector of a very rare Nintendo game no one had ever seen before only in flyers.
So like my sheriff trimline this game has only ever been seen on a flyer so it was amazing to see one actually existed.
Unfortunately the picture was taken 20 years ago and the game may not even exist any more, nevertheless it's amazing to see.
Monkey magic is a simple breakout game which features a monkeys face as the center point of game play
Japan release only in 1979

-
I'll take it!
;)
Saw it on KLOV forum too....Nice Lets hope it still exists.....
-
The controls differ from the flyer ???
-
Yea the controls you would have thought would be a spinner for a break out clone
-
Oops.....must be converted....
-
Finally I have found some game play footage on YouTube

wow, have you let Tighe know, he'll love this.

Yes mate constantly updating him
Top bloke

Yo Chuckie, looks like you missed Ataritoobin's post....right on top of this page.....already has a link to that video.
The question is: why does this guy seem to have a running board so why aren't the ROMs in MAME yet ? :D
Love the sounds and the laughing monkey when he is Game Over.
-
Yea sorry level 42 I missed that
It's very strange set up there
It's probably In Japan where they don't have the room for the cab which is probably destroyed.
Hopefully I can track it down this year that's my goal.
And to at least get the owner to burn it on to mame
Does look like a great game
Great post buddy :)
-
Thats an interesting cab!
Gameplay looks fun as well!

Waha, no problem Chuck....yeah I think so too that cardboard looks weird :) it's also sad he doesn't play a bit better (but I guess he is also filming at the same time) but I'd love to see what the monkey does when an eye is hit. I really like the sounds, simple but still pretty effective.
Would love to have a look at the PCB....

Looks like there's a Monkey Magic in The Netherlands:

(scroll down the page to the arcade cocktail tables...)
-
From what I read, the page you linked to is meant to be a timetable of Ninty products, not the guy's actual collection.

That's just Eric's blog
The only monkey magic I've seen went on sale 2 months ago and sold for £2500 and that was just the kit
-
ah yes, now I see, sorry guys, got overexcited! :-[
-
Andy from Andys Arcade (UK) just posted a new gameplay video, it seems:

and this !
https://youtu.be/wuWT5kMgHNM?t=10
Anyone else notice something about the sound ? The sound when one of the three arrows is hit sounds very very very like the Arkanoid sound when a tile is hit !!!

-
Waited ages for this
Very exciting
Looks fun can't wait to play it

It's such a incredible find
I knew one was out there as I've seen a picture before but it's always nice to see it up for sale to know it exists still.
-
Too bad Valentin has not sorted out yet a container shipping solution from Japan!!!
;D
-
It's not that difficult to ship from Japan. Shipping companies offer to share a container, and you only pay for the space that the cabinet takes up.
If someone wants to buy this and bring it over here it can be done.
-
same guy also has a Cosmic Monsters and a Sheriff
http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/n186772758
-
Although the game and the sounds sucks, i'd take Sheriff simply for the looks of the cabinet. It's a piece of Art!
-
Wow another sheriff and in japan too, unbelievable.
-

http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/n186772758
Screen & PCB are missing in this Sheriff, no?
And Monkey Magic price slowly but steadily increasing : 837 Euros now...
By the way, for my enlightenment, how is shipping from Japan arranged?
-
Are you going for the sheriff Franz ?
You've got the pcb I think you should.
-
3300 Euros
-
Are you going for the sheriff Franz ?
You've got the pcb I think you should.
If I knew the way to do it and also had a long term storage somewhere around Paris I would jump for it.
::)
-
3300 Euros
Dammit that was a price that I would have considered but the language barrier and shipping costs on top just made it unobtainable.
Let's hope whoever bought it keeps the game complete! I know some Japanese collectors due to space covet the PCB and control panel and dump the cabinet!!!
-
The Monkey Magic from the Yahoo auction is coming to the Netherlands. Spoke Ronnie (Rklok) two days ago.
He doesn't have a buyer for it yet though...
-
Awesome news :D
Hope to see and play it one day....
-
If it is going to the Netherlands I would love to see and play it .
