Title: My new Game Room (work in progres).
Post by: gyruss on October 17, 2013, 11:00:51 AM
I got a new location to house my games, 5 minutes walking distance from my home!  ;D It's on the highest floor of the building below, next to the tower and is has almost unlimited space.
I'll share this awesome building with lot's of artists, small businesses and other creative people, more important there are 2 Dutch gaming studio's housed in the same location. :)
Next to the gigantic room for my games i'll also have a large, separate working space..  ;D

More coming soon!

Holy shit, that looks awesome!!  :o

I hope they have a lift  ;D

Is such a large space affordable in Hilversum?

Post by: gyruss on October 17, 2013, 11:12:35 AM
Yes, they got 2 lifts including a cargo one. :D

And it's quite affordable, i made a nice deal with the foundation that's in charge of the building.

probably, but that's not my intention, i'm going to place some walls back to separate the game room from the main space.

There will also be a bar in the same room (run by the foundation), so there will be a retro game cafe once a month.

Whoa! That place is awesome and that plan sounds even more awesome!
Is it open for public once a month, or a closed gathering?

Open for public, you'll pay a small amount and all games will be on freeplay.

And are we allowed to bring our sleeping bags? ;)  8)
But seriously, when are you expecting to open to the public? Any indication?

LOL, let's see, in 2014, 2015 ....   ;D ;)

anyway,

we now have our first official retro game pub in the Netherlands!  ;D Do regular visitors get certain bonus advantages?  ;D ;D

Just imagine what you can do with that place! Organize all kinds of parties.  :) I see a new location for a certain annual event!  How are the guestroom facilities?

do they have more room available?

No idea at all, i think it will take some serious time and effort to create something that resembles a game room and not an office. ;)

Today i got the key to the building, so i went there with my brother to inspect the place some more..

I'll probably use this corner to set up my games. I hope to put back some walls to have a nice intimate space. Also, the floor will be painted or i'll put the original tiles back in.

(http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u471/Gyruss99/IMAG6794.jpg) (http://s1069.photobucket.com/user/Gyruss99/media/IMAG6794.jpg.html)

the view:

(http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u471/Gyruss99/IMAG6801.jpg) (http://s1069.photobucket.com/user/Gyruss99/media/IMAG6801.jpg.html)

One floor below i'll have my working space:

(http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u471/Gyruss99/IMAG6790.jpg) (http://s1069.photobucket.com/user/Gyruss99/media/IMAG6790.jpg.html)

It will consist of 2 of these rooms, i can break out the wall so finally enough space to get some work done (if i'm motivated ;))

yes, it's above the station.  :) And the price is really low, but there is a (small) chance i have to clear out when they find a new owner..

But the building across has been empty for 8 years, so i don't see that happening anytime soon, if so i'll get a new space for the same price.

Got these 3 non-working generic cabinets for free last week.

They will be perfect for jamma games and multi boards.  :D

They can't find regular renting companies on a A-grade central station location? OMG, real estate business does have a crisis in NL.

whole netherlands is "verhuur" - to let -  when I drive through the country. Nearly every highway "afrit" has 2-3 huge buildings for rent.

I have been told, that they don't need to find someone - with the taxes and other stuff it doesn't cost that much to just leave it empty?
Title: Re: My new Game Room (work in progres).
Post by: level42 on December 02, 2013, 06:20:28 PM
Partly true. The thing is that this situation already existed for a large part before the crisis struck. When I drove down Amsterdamned-Zuid Oost in 2007, there were more offices for rent then occupied.....the bubble was clear and waiting to pop.

Real estate developers, together with greedy city councils are to blame for this crazy situation.

Mind you, we did a lot of business with all those offices. Lots of fire alarm systems in lots of office towers.... One example: the 2nd tallest office building in Almere. I commissioned that system about three years ago. It has stood empty since (except for an artist who is using the ground floor as atelier now, also to keep it from being "cracked").  However, they still have to keep the system maintained each year, so strangely this hardly effects us.....

Anyway, Pieter what I think: stop wasting time on Sketchup, you've got so much space you don't need it.....so start dragging cabs !   ;D ;D

By the way, is there another entry to the building for delivering cabs because the one we used last time is directly at the bus station...?

Lol, just got back, the first 4 cabinets are in the building, still 13 to go. I hope to have everything there before Saturday evening.  :D
There's another entry on the right side (with a cargo elevator), but you still need a permit to park there.
