just being curious/nosey!!!

Exactly, none of anyone's business :)
-
this is why i made the poll choices 'loose'

Well.... I can say I spent "quite a bit" because this is what I love, but I always avoid talking about the money aspect of it due to it causing problems..
I have a few "friends" who don't speak to me much anymore because of the way I indulge in my hobby... They keep forgetting that I don't have kids, and they have several. While they are out buying strollers and diapers and all of the other never ending expenses, I'm buying the latest video game systems and Sonic stuff, and I'm fine with that and my life.. (mini backstory on me, I've had cancer back in 1998, and the treatment and after effects messed me up for good)
Even when I did that interview on X Play...They asked how much is all of this worth/cost?, I really didn't want to talk about it, but they kept on insisting how much I spent, so I just guessed with an "off the wall" amount, which would include everything including the building.. and (without asking me) they put it on the air... and of course people made negative comments I had to remove from YouTube.
Sometimes I get asked... Wow, that (collectible I have) is worth that much? Why don't you sell it? Because I'm not in this to make money. If I was like that, I'd sell it all and sit on it in the bank like Scrooge McDuck. LOL
So... I guess this really does not answer the question, but it does highlight why it's taboo to bring up money, just like politics and religion... :-\

I guess you have your answer above - Well written Berry :)
So sorry to hear about your treatment, just hate cancer! (lost my mom to that)

??? Some people are very judging. Don't worry about it. Hobbies cost money and it is your money. I know people spending money in all kinds off hobbies, cars, trackbikes, planes, hunting, hot air balloons, golf. They spend no more are less than we do.
And lots of people have an expensive hobby .... Sitting on their butt watching sports... A really expensive hobby if you count the hours :P
Judging and loosing friends..... An even more expensive hobby
It's a free world and colorful hobbies make it just more fun :D
-
I did spend just the amount of money that I feel this hobby is worth to me.
And further, Sonic 1992 said it all.
-
This hobby is not about money, just fun and being a member of a great community. ;)
-
Gentlemen, what's the problem?
It's anonymous, simply click on the range you think you have spent and it's done.
He didn't say "Please post the amount of money you have spent on your hobby so far."
Of course no one here does this for making money. I think we would recognize such a person very fast.
my2cts :)

I think it would be close to impossible.
-
I can honestly say that I didn't spend a single £ on this hobby.
-
I started with one crappy machine and traded it against a slightly better one. This story went on and on and on. Now I have about 10 cabs (I think ;D) and haven't paid real money for it.
Of course I'm also into pcb collecting and this sucks the last cent out of me. ::);D
-
Btw the first two options in the poll barely gets you a console and a couple of games or gets the electricity paid for.
Pretty clear that anyone involved in arcade hardware is well beyond that point. And then Barries story starts to apply.

Thats because you never get out of your cave :):)
And it is also different from making money on it....
I've made money on my two pinballs and a little bit on a number of video games, but for videogames I am usually happy if I get back what I invested in it. Also, every penny i made went back into the hobby very quickly :)

What is the pound doing these days :P

What is the pound doing these days :P
its not getting spent enough by me these days!!

My answer would be... a way to much!... but no regret! ;D (except maybe few cabinets paid a way too much.. :-\)
-

-
waaaaaay too much indeed ;)
And i never made any money on any machine i sold... if it's in good hands thats fine by me... :)
Like bela said, this hobby is all about preserving a part of gaming history and meeting lot's of friendly collectors around the world. :)

I have the reverse of this problem, Xentraz is into cabs as well, and though you might expect this to be cool and all, we are royally pushing eachother! (You should get this, you should get yadadada) One of these days we are breaking the bank here haha :P
