Title: K7000 power question
Post by: anunaki on July 05, 2013, 02:14:19 PM
Hi,

I've got a 25" WELLS GARDNER K7000 monitor I bought as a spare for my MK2 cab.

No I'm looking for a way to power it up (it worked great in the cab I pulled it out, but I couldn't get the PSU from the owner).

The manual mentions 120 VAC with an isolation transformer. So I need to get a stepdown convertor to get 120 V instead of 230, but I also need an isolation transformer.

Where can I get one of these?

Gr, Patrick

i dont think you need a isolation transformer when using a stepdown, its already behind a transformer in that way, so its not directly connected to the mains.

Experts; please correct me if i am wrong..

The isolation transformer is vey important to adjust the voltage. As the high voltage can destroy the devices.

I understand that, but where can I get one?

They only have 115 (/230) VAC, will this do?

I'm a noob on this, but I figure is it's a 1:1 transformation it will put out what you put in.

can I somehow regulate the stepdown converter to give 120 to this device?

115V will work fine, I have my hantarex working great with 110 V (lower limit eh!).

The most important thing is the power (VA) value. With a 20-21" go for at least a 100 VA, 150VA or higher for a 25"  ;)

To check if a transformer is an iso or a step down converter you can check for isolation between the primary winding (0-230 V pins) and secondary windings (0-115V in this case)
