Title: My Mame cabinet (still a work in progress) (56K warning :( )
Post by: Dirk_DL_Fan on July 27, 2008, 02:30:35 AM
Hey guys,

I thought I'd go ahead and post pictures of my Mame cabinet. I actually got this cabinet for free. I'm not sure what the cabinet was originally. My guess is it was some sort of Midway cabinet or similar judging by the coin door and speaker plates. Anyway with further ado heres my Mame machine sorry about the flash I'll update this thread later on with some betters. Let me know what you think and pointers and advice are welcome ;) Also thanks to DarthNuno and MacDLSA  for helping me get the Euro version of Dragon's Lair running I also managed to get Euro Space Ace running  :P

Congratulation... now you can play the best Dragon's Lair version... the EURO one  ;D ;D ;D  :spaceace:

Nice mame cab, but maybe you switch to a real panel to replace the X-Arcade  ::)

It's very easy to do   :)

I'm using GameEx http://www.gameex.net/ and the theme Valhalla :P

Thanks the Euro version is great! That's not a bad idea. I was thinking of replacing the controls with Happ controls. What control panel would you suggest? ;)

I use 100% Happs controls on my Gauntlet Legends custom panel, and I'm really happy with that.
I'm not playing a lot of Fighting games on it, so Happs stuff is perfect for playing the classics.

If you're a total Fighting game addict, you should equip your panel with Japanese Sanwa controls  ;)

Regarding the panel, the best is to build it yourself of course  ;) You'll be sure that it will fit perfectly your cab'  8)
I've done it on this post (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=6.0). It's very easy  :-*

Thanks for the advice it's much appreciated! The Japanese Sanwa controls sound interesting, where would I go about getting some of these? And building my own control panel that's a really good idea as I am into a lot of fighting games and I do want something that will look better and fit better in my cabinet :D Thanks for the post too I'll check it out. I just love this arcade stuff  :P

Edit: One last thing my monitor sticks out a little bit in the back this prevents me from putting a full back on my cab should I look for a montor/tv that doesn't stick out as much? :P

Great prices, no rip off in shipment costs, in short: great shop.

http://akihabarashop.jp/

Great invoice for passing customs.
Also make sure to try some Seimitsu LS-32 love. Although Sanwa has some great sticks too.
In the end it's all personal taste.
Different sticks for different games ...

Thanks for the link ElPancho that looks to be what I'm looking for. If I was to buy one that was say 2,095 yen that's about $20.95 right? That's my guess :P

That's about correct. Xe.com/ucc says 2,095.00 JPY = 19.3941 USD

/commercial akihabarashop on

Also don't forget they charge a 500 yen shipping and handling fee.
Quite reasonable since doing business with Japan without an intermediair is almost impossible.
Lots of services ask (a lot) more.

/commercial akihabarashop off

Thanks guys! I bookmarked the site. Is shipping time pretty good? I've ordered things from Hong Kong and Japan (eBay) before and the shipping was great! I know two of the places were Tokyo and Kyoto.

Here's some updated pictures. I took the guys out of the X-arcade and had my dad help make a control panel and put them in there till my new sticks arrive. For right now I'm getting some Happ Ultimate sticks i think that's what it was. But in the future I will upgrade to those Sanwa sticks. We have been working hard off and on on this so it's not the best but I'm proud of it :D

Pictures are now online  ;)

Great job on this  :)

Now, the next step would be to fix the 'inside' of the side, here

...and after, maybe apply an overlay on the panel or paint it ?  8)

Thanks for the kind comments and for hosting my pictures DarthNuno :D

Yea my next step will be to fix the inside sides good eye :P In the future I may decide to get a cool overlay for my control panel and maybe have a piece of plexi made for it. I know the right joystick is pushed slightly back but I think for my first built panel it turned out pretty good. I had my dad help because I'm no good with woodworking :( I'm going to have a new marquee made for it too. The one I'm using now was made for another cabinet we built and sence tore down

I managed to get a 27" TV inside the cabinet with the help of my dad. We had to cut 90% of the plastic casing though it fitted in perfect with some readjusting of the wood the monitor sits on. I'll get some new pictures up soon! :)
