The Italian built officially licensed Centipede. Smaller than the Irish and US one, different bezel....etc. :)

Yesterday I fired centi up. It's working but there are issue.

First it started with no sound and all the mushrooms lined up at the left side. Later the mushrooms where ok ( random spread). Sound is still distorted, fire sound was there but is now missing and the sound is cracking, not crisp. Using the test page I get three different tones by activating first one, then two, them three buttons simultaniously, when adding a fourth but the sound ends... Silence.... The manual only talks about three sounds.... But I' m thinking there should be four? Any owners around to confirm my findings? Any suggestions where the problem could be?

Give the Pokey a try, if there is one on that PCB

POKEY generates sounds and also includes the random number generator for the mushrooms to be spread across the screen...

Yup that was what I was thinking about too.  Of course we assume you already checked the voltages across the Big Blue (the AC (!!!!) voltage, should be very close to zero) and the +5V on the PCB.

Nope did not do anything yet, will start with the voltages. Did read in the manual that I have to reset the memory before I can remove the pokey?? Does this sound familiair?

Not really. Don't see why ? The only memory you can reset is that of the hi score top three, which you shouldn't do unneccesary as the chip (forgot which, not the POKEY) can handle only so many "wipes".

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a pokey chip for my centipede. I located in The Netherlands. What is the best place to buy one?

I'd do a WTB on KLOV forum.

Here's another option: http://www.arcadechips.com/product_info.php?products_id=168

Or maybe ask Sijmen (Mr.Atari) who was at Eurocade too.....after all he's Mr. Atari :P

Well it is in my basement, so is a pcb I bought of this forum.... Did not find the time to make the join.... Wanna chevk the voltages first.

Ps my kids like it as is with the faulty pcb, no random behaviour from the spider and no mushrooms spread at the start of the game 😄

Italian version means F.lli Bertolino?

Mmmmm, I've seen the machine at the Amsterdam expo and at the previous owners's place IIRC....don't remember seeing any Bertolino signs.

But Bertolini did do Centi's according to this:

No markings on the machine. It has this italian style coin door but the sticker on it is from a German operator. Also inside everthing is Atari and no Bertolini markings nor any italian labels. The back has a Warnung high voltage sticker... In German that is. So the only proof I have is the envellope in which the manuals where.
