Title: TV Series
Post by: gyruss on September 14, 2012, 05:13:48 PM
Next to collecting arcade games i'm also a big movie and tv series fan, so let's talk about that.

What are your favorite TV-Series?

Here is my top 3, as you can see they are all from HBO:

1. The Sopranos
Modern day morality tale about New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano, as he deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0141842/

2. The Wire
Baltimore drug scene, seen through the eyes of drug dealers, and law enforcement.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0306414/

3. Six Feet Under
A drama series that takes a darkly comical look at members of a dysfunctional California family that runs an independent funeral home.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0248654/

same here, gigantic movie and tv series fan. i prefer the latter over the first because you can do so much more characterwise there!

best tv series EVER (which will probably never change): babylon 5 - but there are so many others i've really become addicted to: lost, x-files, 24, buffy, angel, game of thrones, ... just too many to mention!

best tv series last year was homeland, can't wait for the second series to return!!!

and while i still think the first two seasons of torchwood were pretty crappy and the fourth season wanted just too much, torchwood - children of earth (season three) was a fabulous piece of television i could watch over and over again.

additionally, i enjoy watching television adventure programs like the amazing race, survivor or the mole, but i'm also a huge fan of the american version of big brother (so much different from all the other lame country versions out there - the latest season rocked big time) and yes, i admit it openly, i just  love the bachelor franchise ...  :P :-*

sopranos, breaking bad and the wire are often called the best tv series ever, it's just not my kind of genre and i can't force myself to watch them: drugs, mafia and police stuff is simply not what i enjoy watching!

...which is funny, because Big Brother is a Dutch program originally, which I am not proud of by the way, much like Heineken beer...

I don't have time for TV :) There is so much rubbish it is hard to find anything that interests me....

So here you go, my favorite TV series:

Hill Street Blues
Cheers

(Which reminds me of the Friday evenings that the NCRV broadcast both these series late in the evening, and even in that order ;)

Today....I can't think of anything...I just always seem to have something more fun to do.... ;D

I like Breadking bad, Dexter, House, Law and Order (almost all, but i prefer special victims unit), NCIS, CSI Miami, and some documentary/series on discovery (deadliest catch, Moonshiners, things like that)

i know, but big brother US and big brother NL are completely different, it's like comparing apples and oranges.

btw, the new british contemporary update of sherlock homes is also a fabulous series to watch!!!

You should give the wire a chance, i used to hate police series until it came out, it's so much more then simple cops vs bad guys....

Something complete different but also great: Rome, Carnivale & Game of Thrones...

i know, this series is being praised EVERYWHERE - i might have to give it a try. "homeland" wasn't my genre either, but a friend of mine recommended it to me and i was blown away by it!

i watched spartacus (brilliant btw) before i started watching rome and somehow it just didn't catch me. i stopped watching after episode 3 or 4, but i've heard it is really good. might have to start over again ;). carnivale is an hbo series, right? they do produce fine television - i have to admit, six feet under was amazing!

Yes, totally love HBO, they are responsible for so much quality stuff, Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire are 2 other examples..

Funny, i couldn't adjust to Spartacus after watching Rome. ;D  I also like these: Arrested Development, The Office (UK) & Extra's..

Twin Peaks ranks at the top for me.

In more recent years, I'd say:

Breaking Bad
Rubicon
Carnivale

Cool to see more people like Carnivale, it's kinda underrated imo...

Hard to say.
I became addicted to series because it's not as long as a movie and it was easier to fit in our timeschedule.
So we could watch 6 episodes in a row for instance  ;D
I really love breaking bad..really... But come on: 8episodes and now we have to wait a whole year for the last 8 ones???? Really??? Maximum frustration here.
Mad men, still at the top of my list for so many reasons.
The 2 first seasons of The Misfits (You got to love that Rapture song they used).
Weeds had some good moments (especially when Andy blew all his money in arcade machines).
Then the Big Bang Theory for a good nerdy laugh and Modern Family for a good "I've been there" laugh.
The one that restarted my addiction for tv series a long time ago was 6 Feet Under. It's just so dense and rich + it really has a definitive and very moving ending (but you really have to watch the whole show to fully enjoy it).
I also like Curb Your Enthusiasm but that's because I was a Seinfeld addict and I just adore watching Larry David sinking into conflicts and problems.

Damn there are so many good shows...

My fav TV-Series:
Red Dwarf (hillarious english humour, over 20 Years old, but still funny (the 10th Season aired 2010))
Life on Mars
Dexter, Breaking Bad
as TV-Snack on the fly: Eureka and Warehouse 13 (not much thinking required, therefore very funny)
for a good laugh: Big Bang Theory (Sheldon is the best, bazinga!)

I also like Monk, Dr. House, and Inspector 'just one more thing' Columbo

I prefer buying the series on DVD rather than get insulted by that crappy commercial-breaks.

Oh yeah, I think the last series I actually tried to follow was A touch of Frost :)

My favorite series of all time is Bottom, the most brilliant comedie series ever made IMHO. I actually got that on DVD. That and Blake's 7......and Debiteuren/Crediteuren but that's a (brilliant) Dutch series.

Simpsons, X-Files, Sliders, The Twilight Zone (All series, original, 80's, UPN series) King of the Hill, Dexter, Big Bang Theory,

Can't wait for Walking Dead to start!

Can't wait for Walking Dead to start!

really? probably one of the most highly anticipated series for me - which totally fizzled! never seen such boring characters in combination with lame screenplays before. this is supposed to be a zombie series, but all they do is hang out hang out (at that little house on the prairie) and TALK. even the writers agreed that season two was some kind of a letdown and they've promised improvement for season three, but i hardly believe them.

The Twilight Zone (All series, original, 80's, UPN series)
I've seen all the original episodes and I also received "the twilight zone companion" book which is nice if you're interested in the "behind the scenes" part of the show.
Not all episodes were great of course but what a trip!
I really love 50's Sci-Fi (Outer Limits for instance).
Never seen the "new" ones though, I should give it a try.
