Some of you (if not all) knew that i have been living in Sevenoaks, (UK) but now it´s time to go back.... to The Shed :D :D :D :D
The cab´s i have here will be transported with all our stuff in an arctic trailer (!) Thanks Olly!!!!!!
Started wrapping some of my cab´s today, as i´m going to be in charge of loading them/unloading them, it was a light wrapping they got:
I work parttime in a warehouse, so i have access to alot of cardboard, shrink wrap, and those hard cardboard corners...:

-
must be nice to go back to that wonderful game room of yours!
Are you going to extend the room seeing that you bought some more cabs?
-
But uhmmmmm, why did you put the initials of the games on them, I mean, isn't it our pride that er recognize the games by the silhouette only ;);););)

Yes, i´m looking forward to that!
No extension of the gameroom :-\ the council won´t let me. The plan is to store some of the cab´s, and swap games from time to time...

Hehe, i only did that for fun, and to my own pleasure :D

Hell yeah!!!!!!!! :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
Yeah yeah, very cool if it works out !!
One question: how to do the folds ?
Michael: in this case the initials make sense. Else you might mistake it for an Asteroids ;);)
-
Don't get me wrong, you're doing a great job wrapping the cabs...BUT I think they are far worse to handle now. No point, no egdes left to grab them. Or did I miss something ???
-
One question: how to do the folds ?
"Rillen" is the answer, or perforating, but i think rillen is the better solution in this case :
for rillen you can use a simple pizza knive, for perforating, we can make a dotted line and let the laser cut that out
(http://www.promo-wholesale.com/Upfiles/Prod_q/Transparent-Pizza-Cutter_20090741389.jpg)
When the time is there (if i can make it happen, because i dont know for sure yet) ill make a dedicated topic, because i am derailing Michaels topic now..
First i need to check the file after testprinting and folding in a real cabinet.., then find the right cardboard, and after that test i need to trace the file to vectors, so the lasercutter understands what line to folow..

They still have edges, because i put those reinforced corners on after i wrapped them in cardboard, and they are easier to grap and move around because of the shrink wrap, it's very sticky when you grap it, though, if you have water or sweat on you hands, you have to wipe them because thets makes it very slippy...

The last cab was packed up yesterday, did the Grand Champion Cockpit the other day, buy i don´t have any pictures of that :(

So that´s it, a total of 6 games is going to Denmark with me.......... .. :)
-
Speaking about the Grand Champion, I have a spare complete but untested monitor for it in my storage.
Is this something you would be interested in? Should I bring it to Eurocade for you?
-
great packing job, michael! those should arrive safely at THE SHED! and if it takes longer than expected, don't worry, you've left your mark on the cabs ... :P

Yeah i hope so! - we are packing them our self, so maby the wrapping was a bit overkill, but it´s better to safe than sorry!
-
Wow, please do! - how much do you want for it?
Don't be silly, I still owed you some money from that egg sandwich you bought me during the Duke of Lancaster road trip.

Yes, everything is there!
-
Good thing you're a carpenter.....disassembling an Atari cockpit without sawing is impossible.
And congrats !
-
You can dissamble them without cutting. Only the floor would have to be cut but you can see the entire floor is on one section on this one.

-
Yeah, its always funny how UK folks talk about Europe as if the UK isn't part of it.....
-
Finally.... the container arrived today (!) - at one point i thought the move would never happen!!! :ghost:
Let´s go back in time to the 7th. of June - everything was set for loading the container Monday the 9th of July, at 9am, and 3 hours forward..., this date was repeatedly confirmed in a couple of mails with the shipping company afterwards, so everything was planned after this. People was coming to help us load the container, even friends from Denmark was coming over to help us, and the plane tickets to Denmark for Monday evening was booked...... Fast forward to the 2nd of July... I receive a mail from the shipping company that the carrier was not able to help us Monday, but he could do it Tuesday..... I called the shipping company and explained that everything was planned around this date and time of the day, so we could not do it Tuesday - because we where out of the country - but they replied that these things happen, but they would try to get an alternative... So, Monday went, Tuesday went, and Wednesday almost went when they mailed back that they have two options 1. they had found one that could do it on Monday, but the price for the move had gone up... (!) - 2. they had a 2nd one that had done these things before, but the boss was in a meting, and he had to approve if they where going to do it.... - I must say that waiting these 3 days for this was not nice... not one bit! - but, luckily the 2nd option was approved by the boss, and even better, instead of a artic-trailer, this was a 40 foot container!
I asked what the time frame for shipping the container to Denmark was, and they said that if it left Monday the 9th, it would be at my house Friday the 13th.... hmmmm, then it turned out that the container had missed the ferry on Monday the 9th, so instead of being here on Friday the 13th, it would be here Monday the 23rd (!!!!!!) - and what pisses me of the most is, I had to contact the shipping company every time to get an update, that´s not how you treat a costumer!.... but anyway, our stuff arrived safely to my house today, took a couple of photos of the arcade unloading - and this was very easy compared to loading in England where 4 guys lifted the heavy cabs up in the container!!!!
MC unloaded :D
(https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4093732/end1.jpg)
MC on the forklift, and QQ is on it´s way to The Shed
(https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4093732/end2.jpg)
Guess which cab :D
(https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4093732/end3.jpg)
And the heaviest cab of them all was a piece of cake this time ;D

yeah, those shipping companies have never heard of something like ´the client is king´ and customer service is a complete unknown concept for them, I know that from own experience.
But in the end you got your stuff safely and in one piece to your homeland back again. Congratulations Michael, now it´s time to get settled again, and take some rest for your next international journey, to ...... Eurocade! :D
-
"Use the fork, Luke" ;)
Awfully stressful times but everything worked out in the end, really glad for you!
-
In the end you got your stuff undamaged, think like it that that is the most important, and that its behind you ;)
-

Not defending them, but this is just one container and that's a lot of hassle for them for just a little bit of profit. I know how it works in that business, my dad worked in arranging world wide transports about his whole life (f.i. moving 1200 tractors from the John Deere factory in Karlsruhe to several countries in the middle-east) and ended as head of the Dutch office of a big German forwarding company. What I remember was noticing how small the margins were on any transport. For those companies 1 container is a relatively uninteresting job and they know they won't have more containers coming from you.....but it still isnt decent I know.

Why offer to do it in the first place then??
The least they could do is inform the costumer regarding delays etc...

Crisis.

Did you have to pay upfront ?
If not you can write them your complaints (be business like, keep to the facts, leave out emotion, be complete) and suggest a deduction on the payment for these reasons. If they don't agree, see if they are connected to any organization that will handle complaints/disputes.
Else I would simply deduct 10% for their bad performance. That will hurt them as margins are extremely low, like 2 % or something....

I payed up front on Wednesday, and our stuff was loaded the following monday..
TBH if I wrote a complaint I don't think they care, as ill never use them again...

Just wondering, do you have to pay import duties for your cabs (or everything els) when you move back from England to Denmark? I presume you have bought all the stuff in England.
I ask this because when you go on vacation to say Asia and buy things and then send that to your home adress you get import duties.
If not what is the difference with these two senario's?
-
He doesnt because both the UK and Denmark are in the EC and everything transported within the EC is without duties. We are not one country, but the countries of the EC form a boundary free (well in theory, the UK guys have their own rules) area of moving people and goods.
Only stuff that enters the EC from outside the EC can be subject of import duties and taxes.
-
Oh of course, I forgot that :)
But still wondering. What about moving to say from europe to usa or australia or vice versa. Do you than have to pay import duties over all your (old) furniture etc.?
Is it than better to sell off those things and buy everything new in your new country? Only keeping those things very close to you.
Or is there some other arrangement for this sort of situation?
This is the last question, sorry, back ontopic
-
Ask PaulSwan, he just moved a container full of old cabs to the US. Interesting question. Since these things are so old you'd expect it to be excepted from import duties but who knows....
-
Just found my camera, and on one of the pictures shows the driver of the lorry that picked up our stuff..... :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
