Looks very interesting ! Regretfully no games list though....
Considering going.....anyone want to join in ?
-
Its only 100 km from where i live, i might be interested...
-
I dont understand why they dont publish a game list yet, that is usually what makes people decide to come....
and it is pretty close already....
I could bring a game. I do have to see how I will feel around that time for such a long trip.
-
Nobody wants to go ?? I think I can _just_ make it there and back without having to get Diesel abroad so the trip is free.....
Only Hotel, Eurotunnel and submission costs....
-
Gyruss and I have just booked a Hotel and the trip there...
We have a 3 person room so......if there one person who changes his mind....
Ultra-low costs: 70 Euro for Hotel night incl. Breakfast AND the Eurotunnel crossing.....
Try and beat that...

Pretty impressive. :) I thought it would be mostly pinball stuff, but there seems to be a good number of arcade games too.
André, I thought that you were bringing a cab to the UK, so there would only be place for two guys in your car. If not, and 3 will fit in, then I will gladly join you two.
-
IMHO that would be totally cool Erik !!!!
Yes, the plan was to bring a cab and......in a way it still is....only in a different way.
I am pretty sure we can fit in the cab and you Erik....I will know for sure next saturday.....
-
I went to let years event and yeah, itys mainly pinball, but there were plenty of decent videos as listed above, a few of which were for sale! It was a great event, really got me into pinball, and it wasn't too busy either so it was easy to get on any machine you liked, ill definitely be going for both days this year!
-
Awesome Erik!! I'm sure this trip is going to be a lot more relaxed then our last visit to the UK. ;D ;)
-
Great, will be fun!! :)
Oh, do I have to bring ear plugs!! ;D ;D ;D
-
DEFINITLY BRING EARPLUGS or no sleep for you guys !!!
-
Hope to meet you there Chubsta !
There's a cool news item (very well done for a change !) about last year's Slam here:
http://vimeo.com/19645250
-
iF you can make it to that then you can make it to REPLAY 2012!
-
....and you can make it to Eurocade !
-
Hey!
So who's Coming to the 'Slam. Its about time I listed the games I'll be bringing..
Solar Fox !!!!
Tank Batallion !!!!
Blaster !!!!!! !!! !
Food Fight!!!! !!!
Liberator !!!!!
Starblade !!!! !!!i
Bomber !!!!! !!!!! ! ! ! !!!!!!!!!!! (thanks to Andre!!)
Hopefully another 2 or 3 if they can be fixed in time.
SEE YOU THERE!
-
Wow, very nice and exotic list !
I played NONE of those games on the real cabs before with the exception of Starblade, but that's always a brilliant game to play !
O wait....I played Liberator at Funspot cool one (MC ++)........ohh and I think I did Star Fox there too.... ;D ;D
Really wonder how Blaster and Food Fight will be. Have high hopes on Blaster, I only tried that on JROK's multi williams board but I don't have the right controls.... Food Fight I only know of the Atari 8 bit conversion which never impressed me but then again, I hated Centi on home systems and LOVE it in it's original form....so I am very curious about FF.
Erik, Pieter and I of course will be there ! I do not envy Erik and Pieter, they will have a very narrow backseat....they will have to switch regularly with the passenger seat next to me regularly I guess :)
Really looking forward to it !!!
-
....and you can make it to Eurocade !
I dont own a passport and have no intentions of paying the crazy price for one when it would never get used!
-
Ill be there and looking forward to Food Fight - haven't played that on a cab since i was a kid! Is the Blaster in a Duramold cab?
I am still hoping to provide Sinistar and an Astro City, need to get my act in gear...
-
....and you can make it to Eurocade !

??? So you will always be unworldly. Don't you think that that is a waste of life?
-

an Astro Cuty would be nice. Which game will be in it? A Cave one?

You have no plans to leave the UK? Man that is like so 1920's, go and enjoy your life and see different cities. You only live the once.

Hey,
Yeah it's a Duramold Blaster. I have two, one is a proto and the other the released version. Rav has the early wooden proto XP cab but that isn't going.
Yes please on Sinistar and the Astro City! I really want some awesome mid 80's pcbs in candy cabs.

The really funny thing about this is that Sub was almost demanding us to get over for Replay, so you expect something from us that you refuse to do yourself.......isn't that a little bit weird ?
So silly that the UK ditched European ID cards for if you chose to only travel within the UK that would suffice and is a lot cheaper than a passport.
About caves.....I won't be bringing my speleo gear so no caves for me ;D ;D Mid 80s boards in candies sound fine though :)
-
never really bothered much for travelling abroad, travelling in uk is hard enough for me with my budget :(
-
I don't have a passport either ;D travelled all round the world when i was younger and don't feel the need to anymore - Yorkshire, Isle of Wight, Devon and Cornwall are enough for me, must be an 'island' thing
-
Did you guys see THE EXCELLENT selection of games that will be at slam.....??
http://ukpinball.wetpaint.com/page/SCS+Videos+2012?utm_source=Wetpaint&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=Alerts&utm_campaign=Content
MAN I am SO looking forward to playing those games. One of the many highlights is the 4 player Warlords cocktail table !!! Plus a Duramold Blaster ( never played a Duramold cab !!)
-
Nice! I'm looking forward to Juno First, Tempest and of course Gyruss...
-

So, I just came back from a great arcade weekend at the Southcoast Slam overseas. André, Pieter and I went together.
It was fun and great to meet some friends. and we got to play a lot of pinball games. I really mean a lot, personally I didn't see that many pinballs in one room before.
but the real attraction for us was of course the video games. And they were there also, not as many as there were pinballs, and also not all games that were liste upfront, were present, but there were enough games to choose from.
Saturday was a day with a lot of visitors, we were there at 10 AM and there were already a lot of people playing games, but later in the afternoon it got really crowded, cosy though. And because most of the visitors were pinball players, we always had the possibility to play 'our' video games.
And my two favourites, Gyruss and Tempest, got a lot of playtime (although Tempest died somewhere in the afternoon and never resurrected :'( ). It was the first time that I played those games in their original cab, and boy what a difference that is compared to Mame, Tempest got promoted to the no. 1 spot on my most wanted games list. :D Another game that I enjoyed very much was Juno First, great game. André occupied Gravitar almost the entire event. ;D
A few other video games weren't working also, mostly for technical reasons, like the Star wars cockpit. You understand that that was a bit of a disappointment. :-\ But still, the whole experience was great. Here are a few photo's, mostly made Sunday before opening hours.

In the evening we ate at a 'Chinese' wok and buffet restaurant, together with olly, Archer Maclean and some other guys. Rav was also supposed to join us, but we lost him somehow on the way. Fortunaley later that evening we saw him at the veneu again.
We slept in a kind of 'Victorian' hotel, which according to us never changed or modernized since that period. :) But hey, it was clean cheap.
One thing I will never understand though, how the hell are those English able to keep that ***** British breakfast inside?? I have no clue and I sure will never try. Fortunately there was also toast. :)
This morning we went back to the slam for some more gaming, but at 1 PM we decided that we had seen it all and that it was time to go, After all, we still had a pretty long travel ahead of us. And another great gaming weekend is over.
Oh, almost forget, it was not only that I played one of the greatest video games ever made, Tempest, I also met with the most terrible game, in the most awful cabinet:
Others may like it, but the game is unplayable and looks like crap.
-
Ckong - Im loving your story from your end - as ever I am SO sorry I could not spend more time with you guys - Saturday was all about fixing anything and everything and I'm trying to forget it already to be honest - today has been good - I've played every new vid or pin to me (first time Ive played a real gravitar in a real cabinet alough I owned one for 6 years!)
But the best bit of your story is this:
Oh, almost forget, it was not only that I played one of the greatest video games ever made, Tempest, I also met with the most terrible game, in the most awful cabinet [Exterminator] Others may like it, but the game is unplayable and looks like crap.
LEGENDARY comment my friend! See you in September!
Ravmeista!

Great pix Erik. Was really great to meet you guys, glad you liked the games. I must confess I *did* have a full English breakfast on the Saturday morning and it kept me going throughout the day ;D
Cheers,
Dan

Hey everyone... As the video game organiser for the SCS12 Slam team, I feel its about time I said a few thoughts, comments and thanks to the whole slam - its been a MASSIVE undertaking for the last couple of months, and indeed the few weeks before the slam have been frenetic! Its also going to be a long post so sorry if its a slow read...
From a video point of view, I can only repeat my untold thanks and gratitude to Danny Pearson, Andy Welburn, Karl Doe, Steve Pagett, Lloyd Merchant, Simon Baker, Ade Purser and Oll for producing a stalwart collection of Vids that were unique, unusual, playable and downright fun for the slam. Indeed I have to repeatedly thank those ukvaccers and members who diligently and professionally kept the games running, attracting visitor participance and ultimately alleviating a huge overhead to my time and efforts over the weekend knowing that they "had the ball" and kept the videos by and large running for everyone to enjoy.
A special mention to Phil Eaton, Dave Langley and partners for putting on the video tournament: I know it’s been contentious to other visitors and regardless of any negative opinions, is a valuable opening for both awareness and community as it gave an opportunity to all video game aficionados a way to meet, greet and co-play with fellow gamers. It is a little wearing the amount of negative criticism this has been talked about, and I'm disheartened that people saw it as a flaw to their Slam experience and as it comes across as an unfair additional charge to play the premium titles on the Saturday basically- I will repeat again and again that the machines were picked for the uniqueness and toughness and is an unfortunate by-product that they were potentially unavailable to visitors and had hoped that contributors also appreciated their machines being tied up in this manner, yet, perhaps I should have confirmed they were OK with this before the event started... Regardless of that, Phil and crew did a sterling effort, the data they produce clearly demonstrates it’s a brilliant system and the commitment to spend half their own Slam experience trying to make a nice addition to the event a commendation!
I'd also like to add an additional thanks to Andy Welburn and Ade Purser for providing the bar stock tabletops that were heartedly enjoyed, appreciated and gave the old school (and new) vaccers an opportunity to ad-hoc their own competitions on the field goal and invaders - definitely nice to see a table in a bar like they were designed for and indeed allowance that beer and drinks could be put on their beauties!
Especially pleased to also see Steve Pagett on the takedown after his ambulance departure of which I was oblivious till the closure and can only repeat I'm sure everyone’s wishes for a speedy recovery from his severe chest infection. I've not had much time to talk to Steve before the slam and definitely consider him a closer friend and contributor to the scene!
Needless to say, Martin the Deliveryman needs a medal for his efforts, adapting his workload at the last minute to allow a complete lutonful of games to be available and definitely this added over a 3rd of extra vids to the Slam and definitely made the video presence to at least match the quantity of cabs appearing at the Replay/Northern Lights show a few months ago - and regardless of one disheartening opinion I've been made aware of - the SCS12 was ALL about involving the video collectors and all about expanding the experience to vidheads as they are obviously missing events like the pinheads have enjoyed for years!
I can't repeat how bowled over I was at the generosity of everyone who last minute brought video game material for the raffle and again, at no benefit to themselves definitely contributed to a worthy prize draw - I’m truly stoked up!
I'd also like to say a quick nod to our European friends who made the trip over (complete with an unknown vid for the slam!) and its inspiring me definitely to return the favour to Eurocade in a few months! I've definitely made a new chum in Peter Smets who made a magnificent trip from Belgium with pcbs, parts and a store which he tells me "didn’t leave me unsatisfied" that he made the trip. Awesomeness!
As ever I wish I could have had time to talk and meet new faces and those I haven’t previously had time to meet and greet such as Bensonrad, Vertvic, Setch etc! As learnt we'll have a meet zone, pin badges and means to make everyone available of whose who - I still managed to fail to meet many vaccers and am sorry if I was unobtainable (read too headless chicken fixing things over the slam) to find time to make proper acquaintance!
Thanks to Steve from Swallow Amusements for at least attempting with less than 12 hours to go a chance to get the Robotron going - Simply it failed to make appearance as I tried to fix current exhibits and it just ran out of time to basically have a monitor fitted!
If anyone didn’t see it - I did - seeing the video collectors buzz around the star wars cockpit and valiantly fight to make it a worker - you made me proud and smile to myself as it clearly demonstrated the commitments by even the visitors as well as the contributors!
It leaves me to say that our host Will (Elvis on here) did a tremendous job and whilst there’s talk that the Slam is history, its just taking a break for a year for him to start his new role in fatherhood and if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have had the experience this and previous years to behold - it was the previous slam that opened my eyes to the opportunity and solely through his efforts I was totally committed to bringing the Slam to use video guys too.
What’s more, we're already planning a SCS 2014 as a definite - so it'll only get bigger and better!!!
To finish - I thank you, the visitors for coming, spending money which equates to contributing to the charity, enjoying, reporting, facebooking, commenting and making the pain of near colapse and even a Hypo (I'm diabetic) worthwhile in the end!
To anyone I missed out - you know I’m thankful and grateful I'm sure
Thanks again, Rav
-
Some video I shot....regretfully I hadn't formatted the SD card before leaving and I hadn't copied the earlier material to my Mac yet....so it ends pretty abruptly.

Thanks for the pics, nice seeing all those cabinets and pinball machines together.
