[BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POST]
Following some discussions about brand new B/W (black & white) CRT's (picture tubes) in my Asterock thread, I did some investigating and I now have a lead to a company who has these in stock, even though it's in the US.
The price quote I got so far per tube is $115 which is about €80 at the moment.
Of course, this is without shipping costs and importing duties/costs. As some of us have experienced, these costs for both are HIGH for CRT's simply because they are big and heavy and can't be kept "under the radar" of customs...
Now, as far as I know, these tubes can be used in about any 19" B/W game, vector or raster. SOOOO, if there are any owners of B/W tubes who are looking to finally replace that burned-in tube, please show your interest here. We may be able to do a group-buy.
I've asked for shipping costs & duties etc. and now awaiting this info.
Replacing a B/W CRT is a LOT easier than replacing a color one, because you don't have to worry about converging colors. It should be a pretty straightforward job but I admit I haven't done it myself yet... :)
So please say if you're interested and how many tubes you'd like. No need to commit just yet, just looking how much interest there would be so I can maybe get a better quote from the seller.
Hi: if your source turns out to be cheaper (and can provide more tubes) than by all means let us use your source.
-
Notice that some games use larger tubes (22-23") like Video Pinball.
If there's enough interest I could ask for these too...

And smaller maybe ? (15ST4730R eq 15A DATA CRT) for cabaret.
if it is possible one 15ST4730R
and one or two 19VARP4 for me.
Thanks

So, that means your source is not an option Hi ?

these are only the tubes, without the chassis, right?

Same question? ::)

So, also in an Asteroids? If so, then I might be interested in one. It never hurts to have spare parts.
-
In fact it is exactly the one in Asteroids.
And yes the bare tube....no chassis (where in the world could we find a new B/W chassis....now that would be nice ;))
-
Then cunt me in for one. :D

Cunt (play /ˈkʌnt/) is a vulgarism, primarily referring to the female genitalia,[1] specifically the vulva, and including the cleft of Venus. The earliest citation of this usage in the 1972 Oxford English Dictionary, c 1230, refers to the London street known as Gropecunt Lane. Scholar Germaine Greer has said that "it is one of the few remaining words in the English language with a genuine power to shock.

Sorry guys, but I had put out the request for a quote before your edits. Anyway, here are the results:
First the bad news: 22VATP4 is no longer available (if anyone can come up with compatible tube nrs. I feel it's worth a try to ask those as I'm not too sure if they checked for compatible tubes)
Now....the quote quote is a bit weird as the 15" and 19" tubes have the same price: €80,78 each.
I _think_ this includes VAT etc. but not 100% sure.
Now, I'm not totally clear about the shipping either, but it is mentioned that for 7x19" plus 2x15" the costs would be "up to" €700
So 700 divided by 9 is about €78 transport costs per tube.
Maybe you think that that's a lot of money BUT please ask Speleo or CKONG how much it cost for them to get 1 tube over here....
So in fact that 78 Euro is relatively cheap.
So the total cost (up to my place) would be (rounded up to be safe) €160 per tube, 15 or 19".
Now, I realize that this is not cheap. Hi, if you can do better than please let us know.
However, think about the future. I have searched the internet for European sources of CRT's....it feels to me like they either do not exist anymore or they are impossible to find...
This well may be one of the last chances to find brand new B/W tubes for your delicate games. You have to consider this, of course.
Now, again, those figures are not yet set in stone as I don't 100% understand the offer, so I will mail them again (or perhaps I'll just call them tomorrow) to make sure...
-
:( :( :( :(
All quoted prices are EXCLUDING VAT (19%).
So, total per CRT would be about 190 Euro.........
Hi, please let us know if you can do better ??

I recently sent the request I await the answer

Hm, € 190 is getting pretty steep. :-\
And ....

Does this 'shipping amount' include the import duties, and more important the handling costs of the clearance company? I know from experience that they charge big bucks for their paperwork (almost doubled the shipping costs of my parcel). If this is not clear upfront, we could get a nasty surprise.
Please know that I don't want to spoil things, I just want to be sure what to expect.

It's mentioned as Freight and Duty.
It's a lot of money I agree....

Duty, as being what exactly? If you got the shipping costs estimation from the seller, or from a transporter of the sellker's side, than I would not be surprised that export duties are meant. Why? Because a seller has nothing to do with import duties in Holland. And this would mean that import duties and handling clearance (inklaring) fees have to be added to the sum.

No there is really no worries about that it is the duty on the Dutch side. To be more specific, the company I'm working with has a Dutch representative office (yes I was surprised about that too ;)

The answer today
the same for the 22VATP4 :no longer available
Asked for
2 15ST4730R 99.72 HT/U so with french VAT (19.6%) = 238.53 TTC
6 19VARP4 88.40 HT/U = 634.36 TTC
The costs to France Paris - 373.33 HT = 446.50 TTC --> 56 € per tube
total cost up to Paris - 165 € per tube TTC delay 10 days
-
I have a phone call today with the supplier, I confirm that there would be no additional taxes (like duty for example).
-
Well at least a better price than we've got so far from my source. Pretty weird that the 15" tubes are actually more expensive than the 19" at your source.
Anyway, there's no need to "hide" my source in any way, I was talking with Richardson electronics, which is better known as RELL in the arcade collecting world.
I'm mostly amazed by the big difference in shipping costs.
I think yours are pretty fair for that amount of tubes (heavy !).
So how many are up to buying at this price ? I'm really on the brink. I think I will do it, but I've had some costs for the hobby recently and some more in the nearby future. On the other hand....who knows if we still can actually buy these next year....(and shipping per CRT will of course be MUCH more expensive....)
-
I don't really understand, because my supplier is RICHARDSON ELECTRONIQUE too !
-
Now.....why did I already have that feeling !?!?! :)
Anyway STRANGE !!!
At least they should lower the 15" CRT price ;)
Also: try to negotiate a bit....I've been "on the other side" in this business and there can aways be at least a small rebate (5%) or so...
-
Let me get thi sback to the surface again ;)
Any chance to continue..?
The need is still there... and prices did not shock me too much.
-
Hi,
I would probably be interested in 3 of the 19" tubes - forgot to post before !
thanks,
