YES !!!
I've been searching long for this one....but now it's MINE.....
Never used, NEW IN BOX (although admittedly, opened).....pics soon !
-
Pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!! ??
Arcade Cabinet ? ;D
-
Which one ? :!: :!: :!: :!: ;D
-
OK, you asked for it......here it is !
There was an ad for it on Marktplaats. It is NEW and UNUSED. They _did_ open the box one time however. I picked it up today at the seller and he told me he bought it new from the sore back in the day but he also bought another (console only) machine and used that instead. This one never left it's box since then ...... !

So let's unbox it already !
Look ! Manuals in their original bags !
EVERYTHING in their original bags !
Look, Moon Patrol cart, still unopened, look at the cables, still factory tied !:

Everything unpacked: The things I seem to miss are the joystick (not a big loss, and it looks like there isn't even a space for it in the box ....weird) and FS II.
Look look, like it just left the factory !

Separate keyboard with (regretfully) a pretty short cable....
For those who don't know this system: it's basically an Atari 65XE in a different "package". The separate keyboard is cool and makes it look like a "real" computer ;)
I really like the angled (ST-look) design of everything. Even the keyboard and joystick connectors are angled !
I don't really like the "Mentos" buttons though but hey....you can't have it all.
The system was released as a try to fight the NES. Of course pretty pointless, too little and too late.
But it runs a SHITLOAD of excellent Atari 8-bit home computer games and this is the PERFECT machine to have downstairs with the regular TV-set....
Especially when I order one of these !:

Which hopefully means LOADS of games on 1 cart :D
-
looks cool, never heard of it before!
-
Very nice. The last Atari 8bit machine :-* :-* did you smell the "air" of the 80's on the sealed instructions ;D
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_XEGS
Forgot to mention that it has Missile Command built in, so now I won't miss my MC Cabaret so much ;) (And I prefer this single cannon version anyway)....
Now I need a track-ball for it :D
It's cool to own, because I already still have an 130XE, but also the very first of the 8-bit line, a real 800 from 1979. The XE GS was the last incarnation of the Atari 8-bit computer series and was released in 1987 but my box says 1988...
Anyway, a pretty long stretch for a basically unchanged hardware concept....
The best game on this system ? Donkey Kong. That game made the decision that I wanted a 600XL instead of anything else (Coleco, Intellivision, C64, etc.)
Other brilliant games (just to name a few)
DK jr
Miner 2049er and it's even more brilliant sequel Bounty Bob Strikes Back. If you like DK, you will LOOOOOOVE that game. It also has the most amazing and brilliant hi-score table I've ever seen on any game.Ever.
Ballblazer
Rescue on Fractalus/Behind Jaggi Lines
Drol
Blue Max
Beach Head
Popeye
Flip & Flop (If you like Q*bert check this out !!!)
Ahh....there are too many...

Looks cool Andre!

And 2 atari Deluxe joysticks in original box
-
Very cool score!
I was lucky to find one at a fleamarket, at least I think it was at a fleamarket?? ??? ;D
-
I have never seen this one. Looks great, I like the backside of the box with all the games. Those buttons indeed look like some candy.
-
looks cool, never heard of it before!
+1

Hmm I had Atari 2600 and the quality on this looks better. This reminds me very much of the Commodore 65 quality...

AHUM ! NO cursing in the church my friend !
;D ;D ;D
I was (and still am) Atari nuts back in the 80's, Commodore was the enemy.
But you are right. The XE GS = 65XE = 800XE which were about the same as the 800XL and almost the same as the original 800.
These Atari 8 bit computers have been one of the competitors of the C64. They were MILES better than the Atari 2600.
However, the 400 and 800 were released in 1979 !
Compare that to the C64 which was released in 1983, FOUR years later, and the hardware was about equal in power.
Remember how much technology improved in that era in 4 years....take f.i. Space Invaders and compare it to Atari's Star Wars !
Only the sprites were mere powerful on the C64. Everything else was less IMHO.
The keyboard sucked, the floppy disk drive was as slow as the Atari's cassette system, the BASIC was stolen from the PET machines and thus did not support any graphics or sound, there was no proper DOS, you could cook an egg on the PSU....the list is endless ;)

Congratulations, very nice catch! :-*
I like the 8bit ataris. my first machine in the late 80s was a atari 800 xl. and this machine i like more than other machines. i have used many atari st (megas...) in the ninetees as sequenzer for my band.
my favorite games on the 800xl was "Montezuma's Revenge" and "The great american cross country road race". :-* :-* :-*
