Title: Attempted burglary / Project I had to do !
Post by: Sonic 1992 on November 16, 2009, 12:34:16 AM
You would'nt believe this.. We came home from seeing the new Saw movie, (around midnight) and found a strange truck parked near our house... We thought that was wierd, so we took the license plate number.  The next day we noticed our neighbors storage shed was open, I needed to return a borrowed tool, so I went to return it and saw he wasn't home. His wife said he'll be back soon, I mentioned the shed, and we went and looked and it had the lock broken and pried open. Untill her husband comes home from offshore work, they will not know how much is missing, and one house over their shed was burgled, missing tools and an air conditioner unit.

A few days later, my wife went to check the level of propane in the tank due to the winter coming fast, and next to the tank on the other side out of view was this:

It appears they were hiding, preparing to get into my gameroom building. Scary:  How long were they there, I play games late into the night regularly, !!!

So I had to start a unwanted project... reinforcing the door.

First, Paint and prime a super secure door jamb protector:

Next, carefully drill into the door!

The finished job.  The door now hopefully is crowbar proof.

We gave the information to the police along with the lock cutters we found, but they basically have to catch them red handed.

With the economy getting worse here in the USA, crime is spreading....   It does not matter where you live, Turds can drive.

Beware everyone here at DLF!  You don't want to find your game room burgled... Lock it up and only share it with people you know/trust.

been a victim of burglary myself in the past, it's a horrible feeling.

get some of them strip locks that lock the door at 3 or more places when you lift the door handle.

We do:

These signs & stickers help, but they won't stop the determined thief!

ADT now has live cams that will start recording on alarm trigger, but the startup cost for adding the cameras to our system is too high right now.

The sad truth, if a thief wants to break in & steal, they're going to do it.  :-\    We just have to do the best we can to prevent it.

Ha, my first official job was with ADT !  (Think already mentioned that...)

Truth. But you can reduce the chances by the alarm _and_ reduce the time they "spend" with you....

Also, there is only a very certain kind of burglars interested in extremely heavy and hard to sell/relatively worthless cabs.
Most just look for money, nothing else.

But they might spend the night playing of course.....
