I got also a simular plug as this for grounding :

you can plug that right into your workbench outlet, but ofcourse the workbench need to be connected to a grounded outlet in your room.

I think there is also a connector on the back of your soldering station that you can connect to that, so your solder station is also ESD safe then  ;)

I learned from Andreas that the old TTL games are not that sensitive to electrostatics. CMOS however is a different thing.
Most games before 1984/85 are TTL only.

time to get down and dirty

because the cabinet will be repainted entirely with a new color scheme (and because there are deep scratches in the artwork that need to be filled), the old stuff needs to go :twisted:

no problem at all getting it off!

here are the stencils that i'll be using. they were cut by brian@gamestencils.com who had to buy extra large stencil sheets because those old-style taito cabs are larger than the later versions!

but before i start, let me do a quick test run with the selected colors and some leftover stencils from an older project of mine: blue base coat and stencils applied :arrow:

a few coats of white spray paint later

the stencils come off easily without any problems this time around and it looks damn good. those tiny pieces of white that you can see around some of the white parts can be removed with a pair of tweezers, i was just to lazy to do it for the entire paint job, i only did it for the piece in the lower left corner and as you can see, it looks totally clean and without any rugged edges / paint runs. i guess i can order the paint now ...

i hope it's going to look great. i wanted to use the original beige color in combination with the blue first as you can see on this mockup :arrow:

but since i'll be using white t-molding and there'll be white in the bezel, control panel and marquee artwork as well i thought it would be better to go with white instead of beige!

Ahh your BB board suffered the same "final" problem mine did.

That brown chocolate chip is a PC030CM sip. They are pretty difficult to get hold of.

You can steal one from a donor board. Arkanoid is the easiest to find (where mine came from), but also used on L.S.A. Squad and Tokio/ Scramble Formation.

Apparently the following can also be done to circumvent the chip:

The I/O error message will be displayed if either PC030 pin 1 or 3, connected to COINA / COINB input lines in the MCU, is logic high when the board powers up.

These input lines should be both kept at low level, unless a coin switch is pressed.

I used MAME to confirm that a workaround to fix a bad PC030 is to remove it from the board and add the following jumpers:

pin 3 <-> pin 17
pin 1 <-> pin 19

Also, you need to replace both coin switches with a NC type (normally closed), connecting the JAMMA coin signals to ground.

Pressing a coin switch will break the connection to ground, allowing the board pull-up resistor connected to PC030 pin 1 / 3 to raise the COINA / COINB input level.

Never known of anyone who has tried the fix but would be really good to know if it actually works.

Gratz on the restoration, looking good!
