A Pit-Fighter cabinet bought
« on: July 14, 2009, 05:09:20 PM »
Howdy guys.
Just bought my first dedicated cabinet, a Pit-Fighter in quite good shape.
Made by Atari in Ireland in 1990.
Now i just have to organize some shipping for it...

Any opinions, is this one worth restoring or shall i just go for full on Mameing...?
Honestly, I am more interested in Mame as a whole than i am playing just one beat-em up game.

to confirm your first thinking...

pit fighter is just one of the worst game ever.
So as the game isn't worth it, I would even remove all the pit fighter artworks,
and replace it with some nicer ones.

I hope you didn't pay too much for it and that the screen is working good either.
Anyway, it's a good 3 players panel, and that's cool for a jamma mamecab.

This cab has the good taste to be a jamma cab, so plug a mame computer shouldn't be too painful.

Same as Funky' ... I don't think they are many Pit Fighters around anyway ::) :P

But don't forget the major rule regarding a dedicated cab : If you change something, assure you that you'll be able to roll back : keep the original parts somewhere for example...

But maybe this rule is not applicable with this Pit Fighter ?!  ::) ::) ::) :P  ;D

Thanks guys for the feedback and suggestions.

Its working smoothly as far as i know, i have tested it briefly at the seller´s place while i was around there with a smaller car.

I will Mame the cabinet with a possibility of a (future owner) restore someday.
I have a spare X-arcade dual joystick controller that i might disassemble and use the parts for a new control panel.
Mame is definitely the games thing for me, i would probably get bored in a week for just Pit-Fighting.

Gonna go pickup the cabinet tomorrow btw, a total of 450km drive.

Thanks a lot guys, the roadtrip was smooth sailing all the way, sunny day and no problems at all.

Here are a few pics of the trip on a sunny day in southern Finland, 454km´s total.
Now the Pit-Fighter has been played by 3 players at the same time and awaiting for a Mame PC in the garage.

Interestingly, the game has a counter in the coin door, which was showing over 44.500 plays :)
Where´s the money?!!

Starting the trip:

Perfect weather for a arcade roadtrip:

All packed up on the car:

On the garage waiting for Mame´ing starting right away:

Hey Superully, the car was an Opel Vivaro, a loaner from friend who is in to old school games as well.
I just had to pay for the gas.

Here is the car, the bigger one below:
