SEGA CYBER DOME - a 'Galaxian Theater' like?
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:20:34 PM »

Have a look at this monster 'game'! I've no information about it, except on the Sega Flyer and a mention in my SEGA arcade history book...but in Japanse! More an attraction to be in a theme Park than a video game in an Arcade of course. Very similar than the Galaxian Theater, isn't it? Do you have more information about it? Or already met that beast maybe? Please help...

Here's the brochure when you can see a picture of it :

http://www.segaarcade.com/pdfs/r360/r360-brochure.pdf

Here's a mention of it in the SEGA Arcade History book :

Zoom on it

Someone to translate please ::)  :P  :-*

It would be very interesting to know more about the thing.

It looks very similar than Galaxian3... I presume it works with laser disc too?

Impossible to find a video of the thing running  :? Or even better pictures  :?

Maybe someone here already try this? Probably in Japan only?

I knew that the 360 thing would have had some echo in some way.. :)

you have the Famitsu Book's Sega arcade history book, do you?

(how can you have it when  I've had to go to japan to buy it?!)

If bruno calls, maverick responds.

Here is the translation:

Cyber dome is a specialized moving cabinet with gun controller game visualizing an image on a 300 inches projector tv.

It can be played up to 8 players simultaneously.

The game - realized for the cyberdome moving system - is called "Space Hard" and it is a space shooting game where you'll be entring a space fortress

Each game play is around 3 minutes. (I suppose like when you make a tour at disney land star (wars) tour or captain Eo)

As long I can understand as it is presented more like an amusement attraction than a real game because it says that there is NO game over

If you go in Tokyo at the Sega Odaiba's Joypolis you'll find many of this kind of attractions.. I've been there and had lot of fun all the times I brought people with me

In the desciption there is mention about laserdisk control or laserdisk functions..

Maverick

Ps= I talked this afternoon with ANY for the 360 hack, we should find an after burner board (X board) to see to start the study of the adapter from Y board (or model 1) to X board

If someone has one let us know so we can procced

Yes, it's more a simple ride, than a 'video game', but it looks very similar than Galaxian3. It would be awesome to find *at least* a video of the game running  ::) :)

That's a great news ! Amazing to see the enthusiasm around the R360 too  ;) ...Related to this topic;)

I found this soundtrack called Formula -G.S.M. SEGA 5-

It contains music from Rad Mobile, Laser Ghost, R360 (Yes, that's the title of the game), GP Rider, Shining and the Darkness, and especially Cyber Dome.

The music order on the CD kinda seems similar to the one in NAMCO's Final Lap G.S.M.

Well spotted! First time I can see some real (but too brief) video footage of the Cyber Dome!  :o
A least we know now that game is NOT a legend and it really existed... but my guess is that only few (even maybe only one, as a prototype ?!)  have been built...

It looks like they used sprite scaling for it instead of the polygon + LD combo Galaxian 3 uses.

Oh curious minds! I would like to know what the Virtual on special is (and how it relates to the Sega R360), as I have never heard of that one. I would also like to know what Sega CCD is, as I have heard of this one, but have zero information on it.

Holy crap there is a moving solvalou in that video!

Woowoowww! Many thanks for sharing this link!  :-*
At last, some signifiant footage of the gameplay from this monster game
It looks that the game is not using 3D rendering, but 'sprites zoom' like most of the Sega games of that era, but it's very impressive, especially the big ships  :o
