When the last CRT dies....
« on: August 13, 2015, 07:04:58 PM »
....we will stick this on the tube, include software tricks to get it to look as much as possible like a CRT and continue to enjoy our games.

But for now.....it looks like my CRTs still have decades to go :):)

I am still impressed how long CRT´s hold, there are retro-arcades popping up in the states with original machines with CRT´s running again 10,12 and more hours a day....unbelievable...
I have a dream....that one day....all members of forum are the same....no matter how long ago they have joined, how many games they own or how many posts they wrote ;)

I would like to dream with you but.....CRT production is an incredibly complicated process. IF there are any machines left, the expertise has probably already gone...

The only reason why they got relatively cheap was that they were once produced by the millions.

Do a search on Youtube with "CRT production"....

I would already be extremely happy if they could correctly replicate an 15 Khz arcade chassis.  :-\ And why not XY vectors generator board...  ::)
I've never really had a CRT issue so far (screen burn doesn't count for an issue to me 'coz I love them  :P), so those CRT seems immortal to me!  ;D

With the few hours we put on them, they're going to last for maybe the rest of our life.

By the way, vector boards ARE being reproduced by Dezbaz in Australia. Including the "difficult" parts.

Yes, but hopefully by then the scientists are able to 'drain the brains' of valuable people like our famous German Willy.  :D

Yes Etiienne I love that video too but do be aware that this is footage of a pilot production line, so for small series of new developed CRTs.

Agreed, sad but that's how the world works.

But I'm positive that there are plenty of good CRTs still to keep up our hobby until we're 100 years old ;)

The only problem is storing them :)

Still want to buy this book about Philips' CRT development and production: http://www.beeldbuisboek.nl
