Picking up a new toy...
« on: June 16, 2015, 12:03:24 PM »
OK I said never Sony again but I couldnt resist this cuty.....only 9", RGB etc. So iDEAL as a portable test monitor !

The bonus for me was that it comes in a great carry bag :)

Silently hoping it also has one or two batteries :):)

Yep it accepts anything I need, composite (IIRC this is FBAS), s-video (or y/c) and RGB.
And sound too.

We had a number of the large 20" PVMs at the first Retro Game Experience and essentially this is the same beast only with a very tiny tube.

Gonna have to make some nice cables to make it possible to directly plug in the video connector from arcade harnesses. maybe just one with a couple of connectors.

Just read the service manual and it even has a button that will show you the horizontal and vertical sync signals....pretty useful !

Jochen I notice it only has a single sync input....I guess simply hooking up H and V sync is good enough for testing right ? Does it also accept negatieve and positive sync ?

i use a LS86 for combining h+vsync - and for invertion a LS04...

i don't know if the sony can display both...i read in the net that the pvm is a bit picky on signals...

until now it just had some smaller probs if the vfreq is a bit too high

Well, it is a broadcast monitor so its not that strange that it is a bit picky.

We'll see :)

Nice catch. PVM monitors rock. I have some and they are perfect for retro gaming. Or for Mame.

Yeah well the 20" I had earlier sucked right away sadly....

However, for a change I seem to have luck with a Sony product (for now !):

Picture quality is nothing short of fantastic !

Pics don't do it justice be LENGTHS ! Dark bars are the camera's fault (Samsung phone)....

This is COMPOSITE video and it already looks brilliant ! Sound works great too.

Love the aperture dial....
