Would This Suffice As A Good MAME PC?
« on: December 09, 2014, 05:08:22 PM »
Hey everyone,  need some input,  I got a hold of of one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aopen-DEX4501-91-DE201-I520-C2D-Mobile-P9500-2-53-GHz-4GB-/141021763871
and was wondering if would make a good MAME unit.

All it has is DVI and HDMI connectors, so I would need to get an adaptor to hook it to an Arcade Monitor.
Thoughts?

Would not have been my choice.  Much better would be to built your own mame pc based around an old ATI Radeon HD VIDEO CARD,  special CRT Emu driver for lots of 15K lowres resolutions and top it off with Groovymame,  by far the best MAME built ever.

Such a complete setup will cost you also about USD 200 (mobo,  processor,  memory,  HDD,  videocard) but will give a much better,  if not perfect,  emulation experience. Arcadecontrols messageboard is the home of the Groovymame development.

well the only reason I am going with this is because it's free  ;D
If building is the better option then so be it  :)

I got the unit free, the ebay and newegg links were for reference.
