Space Encounters Cabaret-Restauration
« on: January 27, 2014, 03:40:10 PM »
Hi,

just wanted to share the restauration progress of my Space Encounters Cabaret. Not much progress right now, speleo is currently working on the pcb + psu. Don't know if the monitor needs love too, will investigate further when I got the pcb back. :)

Main goal is to "just" bring it back to life as the overall condition is pretty much how I like my machines. :)

nice looking cab you have there, i really like space encounters. i have the upright cab in my collection, in fact i had two of them at one point, but the cabinet was beyond repair, so i trashed it and salvaged the parts. does the cabaret version also have those insane strobo effects that the upright has ? makes it totally unique imho. in case you have no idea what i'm talking about, check out this video!!!

here's a picture of my game right before i picked it up. got it for cheap - 50 euros :) as you can see, the game is in great condition!

all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

Jesus, that's awesome!! Never saw one in real life, though I know about the impressive strobo effects (I read in case of a failure it can be fixed with a poloroid camera :D). People are saying it's so bright it could damage the eyes permanently. Which of course makes it only more awesome. ;D

The cabaret version does not have the porno light feature, but I think a softcore version is located in the joystick. I'm planning to tweak it a little if it's not bright enough... ;D

Update! ;D

Cleaning the overlay:

The repaired pcbs from Speleo arrived!

Building them back together:

 ;D

Unfortunately the happyness didn't last for long, after some minutes the screen began to fuck up and then the game was stuck in reset mode. I hope it's nothing too serious. :)

Nonetheless the game is really awesome and Speleo did a great job so far - thank you, dude! :) :) :)

Don't really have the time + space working on this anymore, so I decided to let it go.

If anyone's interested please drop me a line. Price is 350 Euros. :)
Location is near Bremen. I transported it with a really small VW Polo, it should fit in any car in the universe. ;D
